I have used 3 for many years, (Downpatrick, killyleagh and now Newcastle based) and found the coverage fine, including France and Rep of Ireland. This was usually on a payg on an older non smart phone.
I use the 24 gb 24 month 3 DATA sim in a mifi all over Ireland and France without issue, although to be fair I do not stream. Just an occasional Skype call to Australia. I browse the forums, newspapers, weather etc and a sim will last me over a year.
I recently changed to a Motorola smartphone and have switched to Smarty (jan) which is run by 3. I get 30gb for £10pm. Wife has now changed to £6 Smarty contract and we link them together and get 10% off each bill. Coverage is the same as 3 on 4g and I can use the sim in my mifi to stream to TV and hotspot to other devices. The only drawback (and not been a problem) is there is limited voice contact with smarty, you need to work with texts or emails. Calls to the EU from UK need to have a £5 add on to work at cheap prices, calls in UK and from EU home are in plan.
Have a look at their site. I have used Smarty in Donegal (July) and Cork (last week) without issue. Like most though you will be capped at 20gb per month if abroad.

Cheers Davy they are now doing unlimited data phone and text for £11.00 for the first six months then £22.00 there after it’s the unlimited data that’s attracting me to it as I like to stream YouTube and able to link my iPad to my phone .so looking promising

I’ve used 3 for years too and only good things to say. I’ve just switched to Smarty as Davy said but I’m paying £10pm for just 8gb instead of 30gb so I must be missing a trick! I never used the 4gb I had in my last deal anyway. Main thing I use it for is the “Feel at Home” that allows my phone to roam as I live near the border and my phone spends more time on an ROI network than (NI). Often my phone thinks I have crosses the border when I cross the house and welcomes me on my holidays with a text! They have a “Go Binge” option too where you can stream unlimited Netflix which is handy if your use it a lot in the van.

Three worked great for me. I have a dual SIM phone and currently have an O2 and vodafone SIM in. Both are not as good as Three.

Wifey has similar phone with two Three Sims in, her signal is mostly better.

I use 3 mifi. They provided the HUAWEI router free and I get 20g a month for £9. It’s a 24 month contract. Works well. You can watch as much Netflix as you want and it doesn’t come off your data allowance while in uk.

Now that’s something I must look into. Did you already have the Netflix account.

Looks like it’s now £14. Something to think about.

Yeah I already had netflix account which is why I went for 3 and their go binge. I've still 5 months of contract to run but I'm not expecting a price rise at the end.
