So can I fit any type of battery or do I need to stay with AGM.
If you want confirmation see what make of charging system is fitted and call the manufacturer. I called sergeant (who make the one in ours) and gave them the spec of the batteries I was buying. They checked and immediately confirmed they were suitable for the charger.

Interesting thread Mark.
I didn't realise the ambient temperature would make such a big difference.
Have any of you hardy winter motorhomers considered fitting small heat pads to your leisure batteries for the colder months? To extend the Ah capacity? I wonder would it be worth the effort?
Our leisure batteries are stored in an outside locker below one of the seat boxes. I considered adding a blow heating vent into the locker directly above the batteries to keep the temperature slightly higher. It would almost be link heating outdoors which is a bit daft and there are no heating tubes in that particular area. I must say the new batteries performed very well in temperatures of -4°C for three nights so I don't feel that I currently need to heat the box yet.
Time will tell but the batteries are working well so far.
