My Escape pod

Not sure it classes as a motor home but this is my getaway for a few nights peace. its just right for the wife Sandra and myself. but i have a drive away awning if i need more room.
It was an X army Landrover series 3 Converted to an Ambulance by Marshall built in 1977. It left service in 1998 and has since had a few owners, luck was on my side when it came up for sale €2000 with a bad engine and i just happened i had that amount to spare. it was the idea vehicle for my plans.
Previously i was in the process of rebuilding a 1977 Sherpa snailback looks alot worse than it is but still alot of work to do.i found it was cheaper to buy another poptop van for parts i needed. it would have been a shame to waste the top so i planned to put it on a lwb landrover, but the Marshall appeared on adverts and i was on my way to collect :fgrin:
It needed a fair bit of work but i knuckled down and got it done.
the engine is a later 200tdi turbo that had been badly fitted. the landy was sold because the engine over heated and seized.
I rebuilt it, sorted all the mounts.Removed the turbo and unnecessary clutter. sorted the wiring. brakes were in a bad way so needed overhaul. body was gutted out because there was a lot of wasted space. door pillars were a very poor design by Marshall the body wasn't properly attached relying on an internal bulkhead for rigidness. bulk head was removed, new mounts made for body and redesigned door pillars. the rear seats /bed, and table are from the poptop sherpa. cupboards cooker & sink were rescued from an old caravan, cut down and made to fit,
the Poptop was a lot easier to fit than i thought it would. just cut a hole move internal struts. slight trim to fit roof profile,
I didn't want to loose the roof rack so i extended it and cut so the poptop sits inside. the canopy awning is a cheep hawkwing of ebay. (£300 i think). bolted to the roofrack .
A bit of body work and respray and she was out on the road before the Tax ran out 8-) .
sadly its still not finished. needs some overhead lockers and a roof lining. but its usable, a great escape pod for 2 old coffin dodgers that need a occasional break.
The Sherpa is still in the shed waiting for attention.
The pop top spares van

The snailback sherpa now in the shed for resto (one day maybe )

Thanks for the nice comments folks, makes an old man very happy.
Just in case you missed my post in the Cong thread, I am also inviting ppl to camp in my field or just pop in for a cuppa nr Shrule H54K883.
Nothing special, has a tap and A BBQ / benches you can use. No toilets yet, and i still have a pile of scrap in one corner to get shifted. Its down a tight lane so no large vehicles, On the plus side it quiet and safe , 15min drive to Cong .Its free to all, but i will accept (but not essential) donations to my project for my Autistic Grandson you will be stopping as a friends not a customer .
Looking forward to meeting some of you either here or out on the road

What a super kind offer and friendly gesture.
I think I can speak for all of us when I say ‘thank you’ for offering us the use of your stopover and I may just take you up on the offer when I visit that wonderful area of Ireland.
