I was always a believer in jump starts and towed bump starts, but like all things electrical and electronic, methods have had to be modified or discontinued.
I used to bump start cars and minibuses, but discovered that the old system of tow in 3rd gear and then lift the foot off the clutch is very detrimental to compression. So tow in gear with the clutch already in gear, Then to compound it advice is that bump starting can put unburnt fuel through the catalytic converter causing damage.
To complicate matters, now it seems like some cars cannot be donors or recipients of a jump start without potentially causing damage to electrical and electronic circuits. I dread to think what this could do to a Motorhome. Well I don’t because here is a good article on it.

http://www.aandncaravanservice…orhome.php

It seems that the only safe option is to charge or replace the battery of the vehicle with the problem, but who has time for that ? I would like to know what effect a power pack would potentially have as currently I carry both a tow rope and jump leads. Is it a better option?

I have a thing that plugs in cigarette lighter to cigarette lighter socket. You let the donor vehicle run for a while so or must put a charge into the dead battery

why not use a battery and decent jump leads! Would be a lot cheaper

I do. The "tow a caravan" car has a tow bar welded onto the front as well as the back, big large frame on the front that a battery sits on for jumping, but it's a Daweoo Matiz and the alternator is too small to keep both batteries charged when jumping stuff so regularly.

I have a small jump pack, basically a small litium ion pack that starts the Motorhome - Jumping Jack, but it would only do it once.

Nice of you to offer! But I don't think anyone close to me going, I'll look though, also it's becoming the time of year it might be awkward to get it back to you. I priced a 1600 peak amps one today by Sealey, it was £180.

I have a yoke like THIS not the same but similar.
The year before last I was travelling through France in company with a friend who had a Merc Sprinter 2.7L base mh. For some reason his battery was being flattened by a parasitic load overnight and on three successive frosty mornings, the yoke started the engine first turn.
His solution to the problem was to fit a battery isolator switch as two different dealers couldn't identify the source of the problem.

That's the sort of unit I was thinking of when I said digital one.

Ah no. Not unless you charge them fully after every use.

Can they be repaired? I have one for a good number of years and it has just stopped charging.

Anyone got the type that will charge the battery and blow up the tires? if needed.

Now I’m thinking you’d have to go into big money just to get one that does the job.
