Tips on parking up for novices!

Hi all,
We are renting a campervan in Clare next Saturday. We plan to spend a few nights around the coast of Clare, then maybe up to Galway, the coast road out towards Coral Strand, up to Lettergesh Beach / Connemara national park, maybe up to Achill Island for a few days then, we are not quite sure yet.

While we are both Irish, its our first time in a campervan in Ireland, I know you can pay to camp in designated sites with facilities, but these seems to be pricey enoug. As our route is flexible enough and we are going to see where we feel like going, we'd like to be able to park up in ideally a free area, without taking the piss or being in the way anywhere obviously! As we are complete noobs, a few questions if you would mind giving us some advice please:

1-- I believe its common practice to just park up in an acceptable area yes? Is there any unwritten ( or written) rules we should be aware of?
2- If we are parking up, is it generally acceptable to empty the camper toilet in public toilets? Fill up with water at petrol stations, will we need to be in a camper site some nights to charge up? The guy I am renting off says the12v system recharges when driving after 10 mins, or is backed up by gas when parked up. Is it realistic we could go 11 days without recharging or am I dreaming?

3- In the areas I have mentioned above, any tips on any popular or handy parking spots? Or any links to forums or websites that would have them?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks,
Gerry

Without going into a whole series of discussions into the best spots to park. For just the price of a pint or so (bit over a fiver !) the one best investment you’ll make is the following.
www.motorhomeparkingireland.com
It has everything you’ll need, all the spots to park, reviews? Satnav directly from the app and much more.
Enjoy your trip and please post up updates and pictures.

Emptying toilet cassette.
If no purpose built unit is available carefully use a regular public toilet. What you are putting into it is afterall just what it is provided to take, sh1te & p1$$.
But be very careful not to have any splashback and leave it at least as clean as you found it.

Once I used caustic soda also known as lye (sodium hydroxide: NaOH) as an additive to create a highly alkaline environment and thereby sanitises sludge from human waste.

But How do you control odors coming into the living area when flushing? At Outfitter Mfg. I was told that people have expressed bad odors as a problem with cassette toilets since they are not vented.

Vakesef You can add a SOG to your toilet, it vents the smells to the outside of the van
