Thetford C2 cassette:

I’m not sure this is set up right. When I took it out, the arrows were not pointing at each other. I took the lid off and put it in the other way so the arrows point at each other as in the photo, but if I pick it up by the carrying handle (at the funnel end) the lid slides off. It won’t go into the unit like this either, I need to turn the lid round again so the arrows are apart again.
It’s hard to tell from the photos I can find on the net, I suspect the ring retaining the lip seal is the wrong way round, can anyone advise?

Are you sliding the unit in the right way? Which way does the funnel bit face when you slide it in?

The funnel outermost, at the door if that’s what you mean.

I have yet to establish the function of the lid. One came with mine but currently in storage in the garage. Does the hatch open from inside the van, if so you could work without it

The yellow arrows are on the right hand side on mine ,so maybe yes the bracket could be the wrong way around. Also I have opted not to use the top lid at all.

I reckon it’s the wrong way around too. It definitely won’t fit in the way it is now.
Why would you not use the top lid ?? On mine the lid just pushed back when you insert the cassette and when you pull it back out it’s back in position. I think it’s only a visual aid. Nobody wants to see used paper etc peeking out or stuck around the seal 🤢

Fair enough, but, it’s just there, why even bother taking it off 🤔🤔.

Thanks All,

All worry for nothing so!

Think I'll get new seal, this one looks a bit wonky.

What I called a funnel is more like a spout really, i.e. what you empty the cassette through. That faces outward (toward me) when the cassette is in situ. On mine it does anyway. So is the ‘lid’ the flap that slides open and closed? It must be. It’s got two arrows that line up. In my setup, that flap is the barrier that separates the cassette contents from the van interior. Pretty important that.

I have two of those cassettes, one came with the van and I bought another to have as a spare. The one that came with the van is the same as the one in the photo, arrows opposite one another, the one I bought has the arrows on different sides, lid turned 180 degrees. The spout and the anti splash button are interchangeable to facilitate different toilet setups. If your toilet was on the opposite wall you'd need to do this to fit the cassette in. When you slide the lever on the toilet to open the flap/valve the lid is slid back at the same time. If you remove the lid the contents will splash about all over the place. o.O

Actually Liam, and Jason, if you look closely, as the k look add say, that flap really does feck all. There is no seal of any description on it. All the heavy lifting is done from the blade... the bit you operate from inside, when you need to go. This seals against the seal. The flap is purely aesthetic... imo. Still I wouldn’t remove it, unless it was causing an issue

Ok, I’m catching up now with the terminology. I should have had my Thetford manual on hand. What you’re calling the blade Daffy, is what I was calling the flap., or as I like to call it, the ‘crap flap’. So now I’m confused. What is the flap if it ain’t the blade?

The piece that covers the seal and blade when you remove the cassette from the van , so you don't have to look at a sh1t covered seal and blade.
when you insert the Cassette back into the van it slides back out of they way so you can drop your load into the Cassette.

The blade is the part that moves across the opening, as you operate your lever to “open” the toilet. The flap, as Martin reiterated, is purely to avoid the need to observe your ablutions, should they cascade in an undesirable manner 🤢.
Having refurbished many cassettes, complete refurbishements, I would consider my self quite qualified in talking shite🤪

Ok, got it now. That all makes sense, the blade, the flap. So what is the heck is the lid?

The flap is the lid... to some. Not to the educated. Imagine a lady’s plumbing. Look at it. 😬😋. Would you consider it a flap, or a lid 😳🤔

So then, is the proper word for a mans plumbing ‘the spout’? Mind you if mine had a yellow cap I’d be off to the doctors pretty sharp!

Fitted the new lip seal, as suspected the retaining ring was the wrong way round. The old seal was also rotated 90degrees the wrong way. All info needed is in a little instruction leaflet that comes with it
