In today’s independent, hopefully the infection rates stay low and the country gets going and we can travel once more

I was interested untill I saw the time stamp, another speculator getting paid for words coming out of his glass ,
Who is paying his wages and why.

Its not difficult to to see which poli-ticks are been driven by the money men.
I for one, hope the Government resist the pressure coming from the lobbyist and people remind their TD's who elected them, the people not big business, the drinks industry or Michael O Leary.

The amount of people out and about in the town's lately there may as well be no lockdown or social distancing...

Have noticed that here too, traffic and pedestrians back to about %80 during the day
I think 29 June is a good date if all goes well

Some humans (sorry idiots) in this world just need protection from themselves.

I’m coming around more and more to the idea that lockdowns are bad. That most of the heavy lifting is achieved through social distancing. So I’m glad to see things open up with sensible social distancing in place. But for gods sake, mandate the wearing of masks in indoor places. It’s the low hanging fruit that works.

I think eventually we'll all end up being responsible for our own individual safety. The lockdown measures will become increasingly hard to regulate, and many people will become more lax in their behaviour. Each of us will then have to weigh up the potential risks involved in our plans each day, deciding what we will do and where we will go. Only my opinion.

This is what some of the elected Tick's in Government who are listening to the money lobbyist want.

This report should be shoved down their necks and up their backsides untill they meet.

New study looks at risk of reducing 2m rule

Cutting social distancing to within 1m could increase the likelihood of coronavirus transmission by more than four, a new study has found.

The paper, published in medical journal The Lancet, considered social distancing in relation to pre-existing studies involving 7,782 participants and highlighted the potential consequences of any changes.

As well as Covid-19, the meta-analysis also took into account Sars and Mers, and reached its conclusion with "moderate certainty" - but that hasn't prevented contrasting readings.

The authors concluded keeping 1m or more from others meant the chance of infection fell to 3%, but increased more than four fold to 13% if the distance was cut to within 1m.

Link to the study please? We could reduce the risk even more if we increased the distance to 4 meters. In fact why even stop there? Reductio ad absurdum.

Money men and lobbyists, ok. Are hairdressers and dentists in that group too? That makes it sound like this is all about the vested interests of a small group. What about the hundreds of thousands of jobs that rely on a functioning service industry?

Not sure that is correct.

I think it said 2m rule keeps chance of infection around 1.6%
1m rule increases that to around 3%
NO SOCIAL DISTANCING AT ALL makes it 13%.

Small difference to what you said but important distinction I think

Several YouTube videos of interviews with epidemiologist and academics later, I came across this interesting graphic that sums up a few things on where we are with lockdowns.

I was Just reading an article in the Guradian about it. Their health advisor/ epidemiologist Tegnell acknowledges their death toll is too high and mistakes were made. It seems Sweden, like Ireland , failed to protect their nursing homes adequately. I wouldn’t say Ireland’s deaths per capita is remarkably better to be honest. And Sweden still scores better than countries who have had hard lockdowns, Uk, Italy, Spain etc.

Tegnell still contends Sweden’s death rate will be no worse than most other countries in the long run. We’ll see.

A joint approach would be better then what it is now. ROI people have had and still have travel restrictions enforced on them within the ROI.
Yet NI people can travel when and where they like, in the ROI without restriction.
If you travel to the ROI from a port or aitport you have to give your details of where you are going to stay and isolated and there for two weeks.

we are being discriminated against in our own part of this country. in favour of non residences outside the EU.
