Camping in June in your own county

 ·

Has anybody studied the new announcement today (june 5th) to see if camping is allowed while staying in your own county ?

Are any sites, for self sufficient campers, planning/allowed to open ?

I think you would have to wait for June 29th for campsites. I wonder what the deal would be for overnight parking in the interim?

The locals where you stay may not be happy , anything for a moan , personally I'm going to wait until the 29 th, unless I had an @Erasmus type of trip

I'll have to pick somewhere remote I suppose. The only thing I see on 'unnecessary travel' in the current restrictions is to do with international travel.

Yeah. Somewhere with a good takeaway. They might appreciate my custom. I haven’t eaten food that I didn’t cook in 12 weeks now.

As I have been known to sometimes think outside the box . I was wondering if one went out in his boat and meandered around the coast and moored off a beach or two what would be the problem . :-/

Is it possible that both North and South they have forgotten about Motorhome Tourism. Yet we all, (and everyone else who are now buying Motorhome’s), know it will be the safest form of travel/holiday for the next year or so.

Do we stay quiet, or start to ask questions?

Expect the masses to follow suit. Or at the very least there will be a lot more people camping.

Having worked near Portrush in the last week it would seem that motorhomes have decided to get out there.

I haven’t been away in mine since February. Am chomping at the bit. But will wait until after Monday. Will also wait until after the 29th to meet up with people from out of county. They are doing their best imo. It’s up to us to do the same.

Agree David. We will probably head up to the north of Donegal for a weekend or two, glad that we are beginning to see a bit of light now that this pandemic has been harnessed. I think our Government and health authorities have done, and continue to do, a good job. Fully agree that we need to be vigilant and help prevent a reoccurrence.

As most on here have I have used the time to catch up on a few jobs that needed doing on the camper, mainly cleaning the outside as normally we are on the road most every weekend all year round so really needed to dedicate the time to give her a good clean, so today I finally got around to one of the most important jobs before we get to head off again, cleaning out the bathroom cabinet & dedicating a space in it for disposable gloves, hand wipes, face masks & very importantly non alcohol hand sanitizer, as according to a friend of mine who is a fireman they have been called to a few instances where the alcohol based stuff has self combusted inside vehicles during the recent spell of fine weather.
Stay safe & enjoy your upcoming adventures

Alcohol based hand sanitizer will not self combust in a hot vehicle.

First of all, evaporation can only happen from a surface of a liquid exposed to air unless you reach boiling point for the liquid. The alcohol is mixed with glycerol / glycerine / aloevera in a viscous gel, once the alcohol at the surface of that flashes off, you're left with a higher concentration of the much less volatile glycerol / glycerine / aloevera at the surface forming a barrier that limits further evaporation. Even in the instance that the container is open and all of the alcohol somehow vaporised, it would still need a spark to combust.

Also, the amount of hand sanitiser you would need to vaporise to get the concentration in the air high enough to create a flame is far higher than you will get from a bottle of hand sanitiser.

Think about it for a second, if hand sanitizer is at risk of self combustion, what about perfume and aftershave? What about whiskey, vodka, gin, rum, brandy, etc...

Nobody has ever given a second thought to carrying a bottle or spirits, have they?

We've never been without hand sanitiser in the camper and have seen 35 degrees plus in France, there's never even been an instance where there was a discernible smell of hand sanitiser unless you've just been applying it, even at that, the smell disappears very quickly which tells you how fast the vapours dissipate.

The WHO specify a minimum of 60% isopropyl alcohol content in hand sanitizers to be effective an anti-viral.

Even at 100% its auto ignition temperature is just shy of 400 degrees Celsius. It doesn't catch fire without a spark.
