Remember the days before the Euro when you had to go a bank, post office or bureau de change to get money or Eurocheques changed. You started off with £100 and by the time you got through a few countries it was worth about £70. You paid a fee to change it from country to country and always lost out every time it was changed. Also at the end of the holiday we were left with a pile of change. It was a pain trying to find some place to get it changed now its so easy with credit cards.

I remember inter railing all over europe in the early 80s....a book of Thomas cook traveller cheques in hand and a huge sense of adventure...the adventure ended earlier than expected when the cheques disappeared quicker than expected😄
