With the Motorhome sitting so long what are the chances of condensation getting into the derv tank and what can you do to stop it I take mine up and down the lane for a run

We’ve seen 2 vehicles with symptoms of ‘diesel bug’ in the past week. One with a badly contaminated fuel filter, we blew out all the lines and back to the tank and extracted all the fuel from the tank with a vacuum drainer.
Fresh fuel Added, new filter and an additive added to prevent it happening.
The biggest cause is low level of fuel, Lack of use and with weather like we had (warm days, cool nights) it’s a breeding ground in the tanks with condensation, it form a sludge and quickly blocks filters.
It’s a big problem now with the bio-diesel we have, years ago it wasn’t common.

Any time we plan to leave a vehicle idle for more than a few weeks, we always make sure to keep the fuel tank brimmed to the very top. No air in the tank = nowhere for condensation to form on the walls of the tank.

What's a good additive to put in the tank , I always fill the tank but it's more or less sitting there since early march, did a five mile drive about a month ago, and a few stop/starts around the garden

with fuel prices as low as they are now,go and fill it up at the nearest station, and bring a can to top it off if you have to travel any distance, also when you run it for a while in the driveway, the fuel will circulate
If you are worried about," the taking you van out police" go in the car and get some in cans.

Bloody hell....If it's not Covid we have to worry about it's also bug's in our diesel o.O

How do dealerships deal with the problem. especially those selling motorhomes that can sit for months and months on forecourts and their tanks are nowhere near full?

Probably the same way I do. Worry about it, if it happens.

I've never had a problem with water in my diesel tank but years ago had a problem with diesel in my water tank when the missus decided to fill the van with diesel and put it in the wrong place. Think I said something like "Oh dear '

when I collected my van I did the same thing, was in the process of filing up when I noticed writing around the "black " rim of the filler, I had to call the guy back, and ask where was the diesel filler. That's when campervan maintenance started replacing the filler for a white one and stripping out and cleaning the tank which showed up no seal on the inspection lid and no vent pipe back to the the filler neck, just a serious of holes drilled in the inspection lid.
So I did say "OhDear" or words to that effect but actually was kinds happy it did happen.
