Just received a letter from ADAC saying that due to legal requirements my cover will be reduced from ADAC PLus
to ADAC classic on the 1st of August this year, which is my renewal date. The classic only applies to breakdowns
in Germany and as far as I know does not include repatriation. I think the letter states that the plus cover is only
available to those with a main address in Germany. I wonder if this change only effects those with a UK address
and is a result of Brexit.

It has been commented on a lot on the English forums. Your understanding of what will happen seems to be in line with what others are receiving. No one has commented or has knowledge as to why the service is being withdrawn.

I got my renewal letter dated 24.03.20 renewing my ADAC Plus Membership.
The only thing of note in the renewal letter is notice that having held the price for six years the renewal is gone up to €129.00 due to increased costs. No mention of any withdrawal of the Plus membership or a reduction in service levels.

@baguette. This is in line with what some of the posters on the English forums are also reporting. Those renewing at present still qualify for the full service. There seems (as I read it) to be a date later this year when the service will not be offered at renewal, but I haven’t seen a specific date.

An interesting thread.
Is the withdrawal of the travel insurance element Brexit related and applicable only to UK & NI residents ?.
As said, my ADAC Plus renewal arrived recently with no mention of pending reduced benefits.

My letter says the change takes place on the 1/08/2020 as that is my renewal date. I think I will send them an
email as the change might only be due to Brexit and refers only to all customers based in the UK. As I am in the North
and presumably will still be in the EU, I think, perhaps this should not apply to us. Will see what the reply is, if any.

Unless by North you mean Donegal , you won't be in the EU after Brexit

Also received our renewal notice. Only change is a price increase for the ADAC Plus following 6 years of same price. I renewed just earlier today

I got the letter too.... in German.

Google tells me it said ......... my ADAC Plus membership expires in January 2021... my renewal date.

After that, international rescue only applies to Germany residents from that date. And my International breakdown membership will only apply if I break down in Germany.

I've been a member for 10 years, but never needed to call them. Main reason for choosing them was due to their air ambulances and me doing motorbike trips to Europe. Great piece of mind.

Looks like I'm not gonna bother to renew in January.

Why are they doing it?

From what I see on other Forums, national breakdown companies like AA complaining that they can't compete with price... therefore they are sticking to German members only.

Pity.

As said above their reason for cancelling the plus insurance is due to Brexit. They say nationality does not matter. If your main
address is in the UK the plus insurance is cancelled at the date of your renewal and you will only be offered the classic insurance.
As you say the classic only applies for breakdown in Germany and does not include any sort of repatriation.

Money an Irish insurer could have got, if only they took their head out of the sand box.

Full Europe-wide breakdown and recovery cover plus other benefits, I wouldn't be without it.
A friend of mine, while in Spain, got recovered and was taken to the nearest MB dealer after he put petrol in instead of diesel. ADAC sent a recovery vehicle capable of handling his 4-tonne 8metre motorhome.

Same for me, wont be without it. Had to get one of my 4x4's recovered in Spain they sent recovery truck and two taxis for all the passengers then were willing to send a taxi to take me to the garage the following day. Best bit its the person and not the vehicle which is covered.

I've had cover now for 5 years and when you think of what Rob had to pay for a puncture, If I have one breakdown in the next four years I will be well covered, but I still hope never to have to call them.

A German based breakdown insurance company, unfortunately they're not taking new business from outside Germany anymore, existing customers can still renew though

Not being smart but the AA on steroids.

ADAC, officially the.
Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club,
is Europe's largest motoring association.
ADAC is the largest club in Germany with around 21 million members.
Revenue: 215 million EUR
President: Christian Reinicke
Founder: Hans, Cartographer
Founded: May 24, 1903, Stuttgart, Germany
Headquarters: Munich, Bavaria, Germany

They closed their membership to people living outside Germany, in or about October 2017. but anyone who signed up before that, once membership subscription is maintained, can continue to benefit with full cover, anywhere in Europe.
I have no idea how cover would work, currently in the UK.

Also renewed mine recently, we only had to call them once , they were excellent putting our minds at rest and getting us back on the road with minimum fuss,Its a bit of a damp squid for those who have missed the deadline or live in the Uk but let it be a timely reminder to those that have got it not to let it laps by missing there renewal date , imo worth every cent .

Its worth nothing that I found out about ADAC, by searching for a better breakdown service, so it's always a good idea to search around Europe for any service or supplier you might need.
There arr finally some moves by the Government to get real compition into the Irish Insurance business, instead of the Cartell that has been allowed to screw the irish public, for all types of insurance, for the last 30 years.
