Tar removal tips please

I got around to washing my car today which is white. White is great for hiding most dirt but not tar. Attempting to remove tar with elbow grease is not a good idea. It leaves liquorice streaks. I tried Simoniz tar removal but I didn’t find it any good. Anyone god a good tip to remove tar?

I use the autoglym tar remover and works well. I put it on and leave it a while and it softens the tar

Small drop of petrol on the tip of a cloth and rub lightly and it will shift tar,
Do 1 panel at a Time and wash that panel soon afterwards to remove the petrol,
Works wonders but be careful,

Three different suggestions in the space of ten minutes. That’s great. I wish I could try them all and do a side by side comparison. I can’t get to an auto shop for that autoglym product any time soon and I don’t have petrol. Can I use diesel instead?

It looks like your up Daffy. I’ll try out the WD-40 tomorrow. Should I leave it sit for a bit?

Have you got a product called sticky stuff remover? No I’m not kidding it’s great for tar removal and doesn’t leave marks

Carpro Tar X. No scrubbing required. Safe for you and your paintwork. By far the best product I've used for Tar.

When you spray it on, just a little at a time, cos it’ll run off and be wasted. You will see the tar start to run down. Wipe it off, repeat until it’s gone. A little rub of a rag to help the stubborn bits. Easy peasy

Another vote for autoglym tar remover, I also am a fan of WD40 for a solvent effect. Great for anything sticky like beam benders etc.

Carpro tar x and Sticky Stuff Remover, two products I have not heard of, both sound like they merit further investigation. BTW has anyone ever tried a spray called ‘Label Off’? Bloody marvelous stuff if you need to remove the residue of sticky labels. Have you ever bought cut flowers from a supermarket or service station and couldn’t remove the price sticker? Label-Off is your friend. It should work on beam bender residue too Davy.

Anyway the Simoniz and WD-40 I have in stock so will investigate further.

I will report back . . .

Label off sounds to be the same as sticky stuff remover.

I had to think about that one Martin. As to why I have no petrol? Correct I do not cut grass. I got rid of the 4m x 5 m lawn a few years back in favour of pebbles. The effort of keeping such a small lawn per square foot was heart breaking.
