Hi All
New in here and looking for advice please.I bought a Fiat Doblo wheelchair accessible last year and am nearly finished my conversion. It has a cooker, storage cupboards and bed which changes into seating when not in use.I am not sure what route to take now with it as I need to test it and get insurance. Will it be easy to change the category to campervan. What will I need to do.Was told I need a gas engineers cert and also auto engineers cert.

Thats an unusual conversion ,car to camper as against van to camper ,the cooker has to be fixed in and you will need the gas/auto engineers reports ,I think your going to have alot of hassle getting it insured ,are you in NI or ROI ,best of luck and lets know how you get on

Thanks for help .The cooker is fixed but on a hinge system which goes up when making the bed.The Doblo is registeted as a car.It had two seats in the back which I removed and has siding doors on both side and a lift up back door. There is glass all around.I would send on photos but I am having trouble uploading them.Do I have to have a certain height inside.

Unfortunately that makes things more difficult for you,as it was a car there should be no tax problems, ring Dolmen insurance and see what they say about insurance

I wonder would it be more straightforward to just change category to a van and tax and insurance commercial

Be easier to leave it as a car,
Tax on a doblo is only €358 or so for 1.3DSL taxed private,

Insurance on a car is straight forward aswell as the NCT

She is 1.9 .
I'm just afraid they will refuse to test it as a car because the seats gone out of the back.Probably jumped into the thing without putting too much thought into it..Thanks for your advice John

What year?
If its this side of 2008 it may be able to get taxed on the emissions which would work out at probably for a 1.9 modern diesel anywhere between €200 and €390,

Can the seats be fitted again ?

I recently taxed and insured a van and for commercial I had to provide proof of business and they were picky enough of what documents they would accept,

Also another plus for a car (under 10 yr old) is the nct (€55) will last 2 yrs as apposed to 1 yr (€111) on cvrt

It's 2005.Seats can't go back in as it's almost complete. I'm thinking the commercial is the only way around it if the engineer dosnt sign off on it.
Anyone know what a day van is.

They got picky about 10 years ago for using commercial vehicles for leisure purposes, that was why we moved from using a Trooper and tent to buying our first Motorhome

It's an American term , and doesn't apply here,a European version would be something like a VW caravelle

Usually they don't have all the facilities for holidaying, very basic cooking, won't have Shower/toilet, maybe a portopotty, cool box instead of built-in fridge, bench seating rather then a bed. The sort of thing you would see surfers take to the beach, could have an awning setup for picknick rather than inside eating and cooking.
