At least they are taking the initiative down there and dealing with it. Might be painful now but it will pay dividends in the long run. We are dragging our feet.

The pubs have been asked to close.........no law being broke if they stay open which they will,

My local is a pub / restaurant and is usually full every Sunday from 12 to 9pm for food,
I passed it an hour ago and its full as always ......

Be interesting to see how many do as asked because its a business they will have to be made

I think we are reaching a point where it would be seriously frowned upon for any establishment to ignore the advise if they cannot ensure adequate social distancing. Restaurants and cafes can do this more easily. Pubs really would need to limit the numbers on the door to do so so, if they can at all.

I agree with you 100%
But I think it should be drafted that the pubs are made by law to follow the guide lines,

My point is that the owners wont give a rats ass who frowns

Guys the one thing which seems to be overlooked here is that not all small businesses have the funds to just close the doors and pay staff.
Will these staff have a workplace to come back to?
Now I am not saying that they should not shut, but it is not always a black and white situation.

Indeed. A combination of laws and social etiquette is the only way to get through this. Not to mention some serious financial aid and stimulus, thank you ECB. If the EU and Banks don’t get behind this it’ll be 10 times worse.

No one is overlooking it except the GVT's.

Financial aid must be sorted out for all business's, for all people.

When they can allocate trillions to war funds then they can do this.

Those facts speak for themselves Ally, but there will be many small businesses that will have folded long before government funding will be released.
In some cases it will be easier to get out of prison than get funding.

Probably my last for a while.

All pubs in my locality closing tonight, or already have.

Restaurants coffee shops etc trying to stay open, reducing number of tables and that sort of thing. Not sure how these businesses (usually small family run) will get through closing doors for at least a couple of weeks as being advised.

Pubs are folding everyday not to mind the virus, This is all they need now. Ireland will be a different Country coming out of this catastrophe. Passing through Tipperary town on our way back from Graiguenamanagh all the pubs were open on the main street.

As long as we are all living and talking about it when it is all over then that will be a success.
There will always be different views as to how things should have been carried out.
Calm heads and resilience will see us through it.

Very well put and that’s exactly my view.

Just think about the amount of draft beer and ales that will have to be flushed down the drains , I’m talking about the drink that’s left in the pipes once the kegs have been disconnected they all have to be cleaned out can’t leave that in the pipes for weeks on end

I presume NI pubs are still open. I hope they are not busy. There should be a campaign to close them.

We really need to follow advice on social distancing and keeping at home unless absolutely essential. The NHS is under extreme pressure and all NHS staff need our help. We have a choice, they don't. Medical staff are already being infected some are on ventilators. Their lives are being risked to protect us.

Aldi, the other day would only allow 2 bottles of wine per person. At the same time you cpuld buy 2 cases of beer. No logic attached.

Lidl you could only get 2 bottles of fairy, no matter what size.

The majic number seems to be 2 unless you shopped in.
Tesco only 5 bottes of wine. There was a deal going on 6 or more (b******s)
