Howdy folks,

I'm considering investing in a Cadac Safari Chef 2, based on what I have read online - all the reviews seem to indicate that it is a decent piece of kit. The question is, which one - LP or HP ?
Anybody have any experience of either variant ?

I use a low pressure Cadac. Safari. It is connected by rubber hose (screw on fitting to burner) to a standard regulator. I have used Calor butane 3 kg bottle with usual regulator, but switch to a camping Gaz 907 cylinder and regulator when abroad. The Calor is cheaper in the British isles but abroad the camping Gaz is more readily available and about half the cost of at home.

I think the HP version uses a screw on small campinggaz cylinder which is fine, especially if weight and size are important but the refills are more expensive, have relatively small capacity (burn time) and are not as widely available at home.

I think it’s the lp (low pressure) version that’s required

The LP version is the one that runs from a gas bottle, yes ?

Yes it's the LP one that runs from the gas bottle. I have one it's very handy but in my opinion nowhere near as good as a charcoal BBQ.

A lot less effort than charcoal though.

Yeah, I have a charcoal one. But as another posted said, the Cadac just seems like less effort !

I got the Cadac brai. Basically just a hot plate. Half flat, half griddled. €99. 5 mts hose off the spare propane cylinder in the MH. Happy days. Works a treat. No bells and whistles like the Cadac, but fits into a flat bag approx 125mm/5 inches high. Fits in any garage/ boot

We thought the Cadac was going to be a great thing but we don’t use it very often. We used it a good bit while on sites for prolonged periods in France alright. But if on the move on a daily bases I found it to be a bit of a pain, trying to pull it out of the storage box of the Motorhome, setting it up and the bloody cleaning of it. I know a guy that has a Webber, if I had a second chance I would have gone for one of those. I think it is a tidier unit.

I bought one of these little Gas BBQ from ebay, only thing to do us open up the gas jet a tad to get high heat settings. I plug it into the bulldog bbq point on side of van, works a treat and less than £30. Folds up really tidy for storage too.

303mccann - Can you provide more info. What’s included? Did you buy from new? Price etc? Hose, regulator?
