Clone a mobile phone sim card?

 ·

I recently started a social media detox, where I ditched my smartphone for a 10-year-old Nokia 6230.

I like the simplicity of using the nokia and I plan to continue using it as my #1 phone but there are times where I would like to use my smartphone for urgent emails, using certain apps etc.

I'd like to have the ability to run both phones in parallel, without the hassle of swapping the sim card every time I want to swop phones.

Does anyone here know if it's possible to clone a sim card?

Legality, practicality etc?

This may sound daft Kevin,
How about having the smart phone in ultra power saver (Samsung do it) where you have the smart phone that is basically acting like the the nokia and battery that will last maybe 4 to 5 days bacause all is turned off, you can select 3 or 4 things to work, like text, phone etc

I remember asking the question years back about sim copy but it wasnt possible that time,

If you only need the smartphone for emails/apps, you don't need the same phone number on it?
Use a cheap SIM from GoMo or similar (with a different number) just for data connection for the smartphone.
I don't think it's possible to have two SIMs with the same phone number (cloning usually means the original is replaced).

Galldar has a good point. Another possible suggestion if you want to run two phones like that from one sim is to run your smartphone on WiFi only without a sim. And to operate the dumbphone with the sim as a WiFi hotspot for your smartphone.

Apparently a Nokia 3310 4G can can operate as a hotspot.

Thanks lads.

I called into the phone shop yesterday and the kid behind the counter said it wasn't possible. The UK networks permit it but for some reason, the networks down south currently don't. He said I would have to buy a new sim with a different phone number.

The info that Liam shared shows a pretty straightforward way to do clone (or duplicate) a sim card, so I ordered the bits I need from ebay and will give it a whirl. Thanks Liam!
