As far as I can see, it’s only a strain of the flu. It’s just that they have no vaccine yet. The Flu kills tens of thousands every year and not a word about it. It’ll be big deal until they get a vaccine, and there will be nothing about it then. Media are really playing it up, big time, imo.

Unfortunately we now have one. In this case 1and1 makes eleven and 11abd11 makes one thousand etc, etc,
And word is that there is another, not announced yet.

It is far more contagious than Flu, so it'll affect more people, hence the mortality rates will be higher. Can't really argue with that.

Best not to panic about it though. Handwashing and general awareness will be the best way to combat it. Disinfectant soap and hand sanitisers the first line of defense.

Same as you would if you had the flu.

The only prepping I'm doing is to make sure I have enough whiskey, lemons & cloves for hot toddies (If I do get a dose of it)... ;-)

I read something recently where it was noted that with any new virus that the mortality rate is always high initially as they are usually more virulent when first contracted by humans, however as the virus progresses the mortality rate decreases as the virus finds it's level. Apparently it's not in the viruses interest to kill it's host as it spreads less quickly that way.

Because of this we won't get a real idea of the true mortality rates until the whole thing has run it's course or stabilised at least.

Many people contract the virus and have minimal symptoms so they don't get included in early counts before public awareness grows, this is a big factor in declining mortality rates as the virus spreads.

Is this virus Natures way of getting back at us, just like the lions circling the herds of buffalo and taking out the old and lame ?
