I’ve never been into that kinda thing but I know a lot who are. I think it’s a very short sight policy of the council as far as tourism is concerned. They need to cut their own expenses on running the council etc and lead by example.

That's what happens when you give jobs to people who are not qualified to have them.

The question I would have is why did it take them until they had a debit of 70million to realise something was seriously wrong?
After watching the news tonight they have decided to cancel the airshow, close waterworld and switch off free Wi-Fi which will save them less than £400,000.
What business could survive with a business plan like that?
These Muppets really beggar belief.

That’s the problem Norman, there is no accountability nor penalty for making an absolute bollox of your position, no financial penalty, no loosing your job..... in fact, they’ll probably be promoted.... try it ONCE in a private sector business type roll, yes it happens but the firm folds, jobs get lost but that’s the price for accountability......
The public sector needs a good tight shaking up, and as Ally said... quit giving jobs to folk who haven’t the first idea of how to do it...... or privatise the whole damn lot.

They are a crowd of bloody spacers if you ask me who don’t have a bloody clue but think they are God s gift to the community. I would sack the whole lot of them. Apologies for the language but I’m so angry with folk like them. They will cut everything but their own benefits.

Absolutely agree with you Jack, just watch and see their next move.
Small businesses will be crippled by rates hikes, only last week a small business in Ballycastle were saying that their rates had increased from £3000 in 2014 to £11600 this year and their future was looking bleak. This was a fami!y business that had been running for 50 years now have probably come to the end of the road.
This town also comes under the Causeway Coast and Glens banner.
No surprise there I would say.

Surely this falls on the shoulders of the elected Councillors. And who elects them?

In the private sector it comes under corporate governance and those at the top are held accountable for the decisions which got a company into that state, with the sanctions of dismissal/ barred from office/custodial sentencing among the options to the various bodies monitoring the company. With a council nothing will happen, those at the top will still get a raise along with additional holidays for length of service etc. The councillors are the public face who pass various decisions which the full time staff put forward and monitor so it’s the civil servants who need to be held accountable, but unfortunately the system is such that it just won’t happen and the public will suffer and pay for their mistakes time and time again

After the RPA (review of public administration) when a lot of councils in NI were rolled together in 2015 some may have had debt and the better managed ones may have surpluses. If the debts were more than the surplus then that new super council was in debt overall. Not sure how it was with Causeway coast and Glens though but more than one of the councils that were rolled together to form it must have had a fair bit of debt to begin with. They only finally made a decisions on cuts and a rate rise when there was an absolute deadline or else the Dept of communities would have stepped in.

Like the Assembly which only got itself back up at the very last moment before a new election would have been called. Self preservation or an absolute deadline is a great motivator...
