Hello all, has anyone in here had the problem of water being discharged through the hot water air vent to the outside when the tap is turned on, Any advice/tips would be much appreciated , Thanks Sime.

Sounds like your automtic air vent (aav)/pressure relief valve (prv) (i might have the wrong name for it) but it.
Basically it lets excess pressure of heated water out of the mh in the event of a boiler overheating the water due to a temp sensor failure,

If you ring Donagheys and talk to the lads they could have one in the post today and it should be an easy swap out

Are you sure it's the air/pressure release valve and not the frost dump valve .
A photo might help to identify the problem.

Yes sounds like the frost dump valve

I’m not so sure. If it was the dump valve, why does the tap need to be turned on for it to happen. Surely it would dump the water whether the tap was on or off

The frost protection dump valve only dumps what in the boiler.
However, when you turn on the tap, in a system where there's a microswitch in the tap, the pump will run and it's the water from the main tank which is being pumped out the dump valve.

If the water system is a pressurised system where a pressure switch controls the pump and the power supply to the pump is live if the dump valve opens the pump will start running (due to pressure drop) and pump out the main tank and all, then continue running dry. If it's a diaphragm pump, which they usually are, it doesn't cause any damage to the pump it just flattens the battery.

Ah right. Mine is the pressurised type. I have no experience of the other type. Makes sense that way alright

If his is the micro switch type, it certainly does sound like the dump valve

I always make sure the pump switch is off when I leave the van as it has emptied the main tank when the temperature has gone down

Me too. But if the heating is on it won't dump. It just has to be switched on, not actually heating.

No Guys, its not the dump Valve, It's the air-vent that comes off the knuckle of the hot pipe. I have ordered a new one , but having removed the old one and inspected it, i cant ,for the life of me figure out how it's supposed to work,as it seems to be just a t-piece, I don'r see anything like a valve mechanism in it. I'm obviously missing something.

Is the valve further down along the pipe, even where it exits the heater ??

No Daffy, that elbow goes straight on to a 10mm stainless pipe that comes out of the boiler very near the top.

Maybe it’s because it’s kaput is why it just looks like a tee. Perhaps all will be revealed when the new one arrives. Could be a diaphragm missing out of it or something. Just guessing

Have you looked at this solution??

There is a small ball bearing in the valve, that stops the water but allows the air in.

I had a similar issue on my last van and a new valve corrected it

Ahh, now that makes sense , I thought there should be something like that in there. Thanks fat controller, I reckon you've spot on there. Will update when I get the new one.

Hi everybody, just want to let you know I got the Knuckle/air vent by post this morning, and yes , as fat controller had said on a previous reply, there is something like a ball bearing in it that forms a one way valve, this was missing from mine , and so was pumping the water out the overflow pipe. Soo I’m all sorted , and I want thank you all for being so helpful. Cheers for now ,Simon 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
