Oh dear. I see major disruption on the horizon. Our MH's MoT is booked for March, and we set off for Spain towards the end of Easter week.

Here's hoping they get the test centre lifts replaced!

Seems everyone is getting an exemption, I wouldn't worry too much.

Statement from Paul Duffy, Chief Executive of the Driver and Vehicle Agency

Following further inspections of lift faults in MOT centres, the contractor has not provided sufficient assurance to DVA this evening on the effectiveness of the ongoing repairs. To ensure the health and safety of staff and customers and as a precautionary measure, DVA has suspended all MOT testing for cars and light vehicles with immediate effect. Tests on heavy goods vehicles and buses will continue.

Anyone scheduled for a car or light vehicle MOT tomorrow should not attend. All customers, except customers with four year old vehicles and taxis, will be automatically issued an MOT exemption certificate and therefore can continue to drive. The exemption will be recorded in the DVA system and a hard copy will arrive by post in the coming days.

For customers with four year old vehicles and taxis, we are working to urgently find a solution to get these vehicles through MOT and will contact customers directly. The DVA will issue a further statement as a matter of urgency to advise these customers and those who have MOTs booked for later this week. We want to advise customers that more cancellations are very likely.

The DVA recognises the considerable inconvenience and disruption this will cause for many people and sincerely apologises that it has been unable to rectify this situation more quickly.

Given the urgency of this situation, we are asking the public to follow media, social media channels and nidirect for updates. Staff will also be kept fully informed by their centre managers.
The Minister has held an urgent meeting with officials this evening in relation to this matter.

We'll see. MoT booked for 24/02. Going to Spain about 16/3, back about 28/6... which is a few days after the extension expires.

I guess I'll watch things for a bit and, if needed, come back a few days early.

Just call into a centre and person and boom straight into the bus/lorry lane. I do that every time now. Slots there will not be as quick as before though if they are putting taxis and 4 year old cars through it.

From my experience Motorhomes do not use the car lanes or lifts, lorry lanes are not affected other than they may be busier due to more vehicles being directed there.

True but even when the IT system allows you to book in it will force an under 3500kg Motorhome onto a car lane. If you go to the office you can book it directly into lane 1 and avoid the longer wait and the look of alarm on the testers far when you pull up in a car lane.

Their IT system also books mine (registered as PHGV at a revenue weight of 3850) onto a car lane.

Last year they attempted to test it on a car lane but then abandoned it after the front wheel brake test, reversed it out and put it down the lorry lane.

Down here all ours are tested through the CVRT (Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test) system, not the NCT (National Car Testing ) two completely different places.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, if anyone wants to cancel an mot or psv date they must give 24hrs notice otherwise they loose their fee.
Yesterday Monday I had two work vans booked in for psv one at 4pm and the other at 5.05pm but at 3pm got a call to say everything was cancelled.
I wonder what my compensation will be?

The same compensation you get when selling your vehicle or putting one on SORN and losing the rest of the months tax payment.

SFA!

CVRT still differentiate between <3500kgs and >3500kgs.

I use Fitzpatricks in Bray because it's close to work for me and handy to drop off and pickup on a work day but they do the LCV test only and there are other centers that do HCV test only.

Who said we didn't have a united Ireland 😁
Strange that the virus hasn't reached across the water.

Is there anything in the rumour that there is a fellow doing good business digging pits.😁

The latest saga.
A woman goes in for her test this morning and is given a Fail report because they could not complete the test, they won't use the ramps so they could not do the underside of the test, she has to come back when the ramps are fixed.
OK so now her Daughter cant do her driving test because they will not do a test in a car that has not got a full NCT.

The Boss of the NCT said this morning that the Garda will accept the NVT paperwork and not take the car off the road and issue an on the spot fine. ( BULLSHIT )
Anyone going across the water may cancel their trip/holiday because if anyone thinks the UK or French Police are going to allow you to drive around with a piece of paper that says your car FAILED its test is living in dreamland. On the spot fine, car impounded and if lucky not arrested.
