Just thinking ahead to our next trip to France. We’re looking maybe to head to the south of France as we have a slightly longer stay this time. It would be nice to see some of the Med, and the Pyrenees, as we haven’t been before.

I have a couple of questions. What’s the minimum stay, in your opinion, to make it worth heading south? We have 14 nights. And where in the Pyrenees would you recommend for a couple of nights stay?

14 days is more than enough time. You can be in the Pyrenees with one overnight stop and a lot of driving or enjoy the drive down over 2 or 3 nights. We stayed with friends south of Pau. Had a tour of the Mountains in a 4x4. Glad we weren’t doing it in the van.

Well that’s reassuring about 14 nights being plenty. Andorra eh, never thought about that. Will keep it in mind.

Cheers

You might like a tour of the Airbus factory in Toulouse if you're heading towards the med

If you would prefer sun and sea, check out Gruissan. Toll road from La Rochelle ends up here. Brilliant spot on the Med. happy planning.

Get on the road south & make one, maybe 2 stops on the way down, hit the toll roads for speed.

Nip over the French/Spanish border on the Med side to the Bay of Roses ..... beautiful area with many stopovers & much less expensive than France.
Screenshot below of all the stops.

And the screenshot below shows the ACSI 2020 sites.

I’d second JJf. Roses is lovely. Last summer, we left Cherbourg at 6:30 pm after purchasing food and wine after leaving the ferry. Drove to within 60 km of Nantes that night stopped approx 22:30. Next day drove to within 25 km of Carcassonne, approx 5:30 pm, with a couple of short stops. Next day spent about 5 hours touring the old walled town, and left approx 2:30 pm. Landed in Roses before 5pm. Spain a lot cheaper than France, especially the south of France

Providing it’s not a heatwave , on account of the dog, the Bay of Roses sounds great. But at the start of a June, which is really only the start of the summer, the temperatures could be just right.

And I'd Third JJF. Head straight to Roses Jason, you wont be disappointed, Beer is probably only 1/3 the price of France, your euro go's much further. when there take the small train up the mountain.( it is not that small, its pulled by a JCB fastrac). we were there in August and had to buy a electric fan, it was very warm.

I can taste the San Miguel’s already.

That is an area of Spain we have been going to regularly for the past 18 years, from a little village called Mieres 60km inland
If you're into Port or fortified wine there is an outlet in the market that sells it loose from the aged barrels. Mercat Municipal de Roses.

Is that Mieres in Northern Spain Martin? I can’t find one in Catalonia. I do like my port wines indeed.

Mieres is on the edge of the Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa, off the G1-524 west of Banyoles 42°07'30.0"N 2°38'21.7"E 42.125009, 2.639357.
The port shop is in Roses town. if you're into Art this is Dali country his house is in Port Lligat, his Wife,s is in Pubol and there is the Teatre-Museu Dalí in Figures.

I can just see it now. Waking up in glorious sunshine every morning. Feeling so good, I just want to go fur a run in the park. “Where are you off to honey?” - she says. I reply, “I’m just off to the Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa for a run darling. See you in a bit”. 😆
