Yeah but not ideal, they are designed to remain shut, nice and tight fitting to make them work at their best. Probably need a bit of repositoning if you were to use the doors a lot.

Everyone has their own favourite, for me the proper Silver Screens, the company that is called that. We find all others inferior (helmet put on).

Taylormade Screens for me, prefer to Silverscreen as they do a long version that covers the air vents

I’m quite interested in this, as I am close to purchasing a set. However, with the blind dog, he has to use the front passenger door, as the steps up to habitation door are too hard for him to manage, therefore if the front doors can’t be opened with the screen in place, I may stick with the internal ones, I guess. Just as well the topic came up, or I would never have considered that.

Talk to SilverScreen and they are very helpful. They may be able to do something to facilitate the dog.

Make a small ramp from a piece of ply with a piece of carpet or a batton so the dogs nails can grip,

I have silver screens and find them brilliant,
Have not had other brand so I cannot compare

Max we have one of those, but since he went completely blind it’s impossible to get him to go up it. As he’s a Labrador, he’s a bit on the big side to lifting, plus he hates being lifted. TBH, I find the internal ones ok anyway. The karcher vac takes the condensation away in a few seconds.

Some cool ones on here. I haven't used them but with the eyes they look great. Customise them to your taste and they you get a price at the end.

Cheers. 12 1/2 now. Fit as a flea. Still walking 8-9 km every day. Just like us all, getting set in his ways as he gets older😂.

Total waste of time unless they are for blocking some sun.

If you get externals you'll have a right Chuckle at the internals.

Unlike you gals un guys out there with vans with loads of storage room finding a home in my van conversion for external screens was a bit of a pain.
So my solution is to put them in vacuum bags I bought a set off Amazon one jumbo two large and 2 medium and they came with a pump like thing to get the air out of the bag. Checked with Taylormade OK to do this and they say no problem, Added benefit is that if you bring them in soaking wet you have a nice big plastic bag to put them in. I found the jumbo big was good for the front and the two sides in the large. They go down to less than 1 inch thick approx

David. I just fitted my Silver Screens. When they are on I can only open the door about 12 inches or less, not enough to get in. When I try the screens tighten and won’t let it open it further. The screens are 15 years old but think all would be the same. They are on a 2003 Ducato. I reckon if you talked to silver Screens they could provide a solution. I would think made in 2 pieces and Velcro would do it

David the ones on my van are the same, you can only open it a small bit and then it gets very tight at the top joint between the door frame and widescreen . If you unhook the elastic strap from the door top corner you can then fold it back and open the door. I would inquire from the manufacturer or someone if a zipper could be fitted along the joint at the window /door.

Screen up. No chance, but when the front is folded down (as it is during the day) the door opens fully.

PS can someone rotate the pics please.

That’s great information lads. I really appreciate it. Maybe he ones with the fold down front would be the way to go. I’ll ask them anyway and see what they say. You that have them, are they really that good for condensation, because we certainly don’t find the van cold with the internal ones

We only ever had Genuine Silver screens, which we find great, we used them regularly in our last Motorhome but not as much in the current one as it has also remis blinds fitted. now we use them more while abroad to keep out the heat or at home in a frosty night , otherwise we only use the remis blinds. one important thing if ordering screens for a Motorhome with existing remis blinds, the standard silver screen will not fit, the silver screen sides are made wider on vans with remis blinds for them to slide over the doors

An interesting bonus from having Silver screens (external), not only do they virtually eliminate condensation, but, in Fiat and possibly other vans produced by the alliance, it reduces the likelihood of dampness affecting the instrument panel. This seems to be a common issue on vans of the 2015 era although I am not certain what the range of years is. There seems to be some evidence that the damp damages the cheap components with poor connections and is possibly a contributory factor in the faintly glowing warning light fault.

If there aren't any surfaces cold enough to make it condense, the moisture stays in the air. Once the windows and doors are opened the next day, cold dry air will start to come in and the warm moist air will go out.

Moist air won’t kill you. Condensation is a problem. Ventilation is required no matter what.

I hear the Karcher Vac doesn’t work upside down btw. I got an Aldi that does work upside down. You would need to turn it upside down when trying to get the bottom of my windscreen over the dash.

Silverscreens, must look into them.

My Karcher sort of works upside down, it will until there gets too much water in it, then it falls out :/ Lucky enough I don't need it to go upside down or it would be a problem.

I know. Condensation formed overnight and allowed to fully evaporate the next day won't kill you either. I was merely explaining where the moisture goes if it doesn't condense.

An older Karcher one I have doesn't like upside down, or sideways either.

Got a new Karcher one which has a tube that goes down into the water bottle, so when upside down the water doesn't go back up into the pump. Need to empty it regularly though.

I hear you BM. The problem is the condensation that doesn’t evaporate and needs to be vacuumed or wiped up. Otherwise it could end up in metal/wood work, or fabric forming rust, damp or mold. Not letting too much condensation form in one place is a good goal surely.

Condensation on the cab windows should get fully dried up by the demister when you're driving. In the context of external silver screens, this is really all we're talking about preventing, obviously you still need to open windows / vents to allow the moist air to escape afterwards if you don't have A/C. Maybe this is less effective on A-Class wagons with bigger windscreens, I don't know, but again in the context of external silver screens, they're going to be tricky to find for an A-Class van.

I think Galldars question about where the moisture would go is an interesting one, there is a finite amount of moisture in the air overnight, perhaps having it condense on the windscreen is a good way of controlling where it goes and making sure it is easy to clear up.

In general, I open roof vents every morning where practical when we're out in the van and run a dehumidifier every so often when the van is parked up at home. The bathroom roof vent is always open at least a crack unless we're driving.
