Anyone sail on this vessel, the MV Kerry ?
We’re on it on Friday 15th November from Cork/Santander and wondering what it’s like. Looks small 🤪

Kerry, 186m long, 26m beam, 7500 tonnes (DWT)
Connemara, 187m long, 26m beam, 7657 tonnes (DWT)
The only real difference seems to be in the layout design. Probably same hull design so same seakeeping performance.

Thanks Colin. Wasn’t sure of the size, but being comparable to the Connemara it’ll be fine.
I’ll post up my findings when voyage done.
Sail about 21:00 hours and will be 2 nights on board.

How often does it sail on normal timetable?
Will they inform you or do you have to keep checking the website?

Got a text and an email stating the following;

Sailing Cancellation
We're sorry to inform you that due to adverse weather conditions your sailing Cork -Santander, Friday 15/11/2019 has been cancelled. Please contact + 353 ( 0 ) 21 4277 801 ( select option 1 ) or + 44 1752 645 726 for assistance with alternative travel arrangements. The next direct sailing from Cork to Santander is Monday 18/11/2019 at 22:30. Alternatively, you can cancel and receive a full refund of your ticket. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Rang the number and have rebooked for this day week, sailing on Monday is full and no pet friendly cabins left so the later sailing is all that is available.
The ferry is at Santandar and cant sail due to high seas therefore wont be back for tomorrow night.

I would rather be in Port than bouncing around especially Bay of Biscay.
Frustrating got those who only have short amounts of annual holiday leave, an event to attend.

Yeah, frustrating alright.
Everything ready and things sorted. Were flying home on 19th December for Christmas and it leaves us with a narrower window when we get there....... but hey-ho, it is what it is. We leave a week tomorrow.

Just got e-mail from Brittany.
Our booking now amended again to Monday the 25th November as no pet cabins on the Friday.
We will re-evaluate ever using them again, the drive through France is worth it if this is the standard of service Brittany ferries are offering...... take it or take your money back is their option.
May look at the Cherbourg route yet and ask for a refund. Disgraceful.

At least they seemed to have learned from the shambles last May and now offer assistance with alternative travel arrangements.

If time is not of the essence why not ask for a landbridge, Rosslare - Pembroke, BF is one of IF landbridge partners, and BF Portsmouth - Caen plus a refund sum to cover three tanks of diesel, one for the UK leg and two for the Caen - Spain leg.
A leisurely drive through France on N & D roads in Autumn can be really enjoyable and colourful as the trees take on their Autumn shades.

Losing customers is the only way they may learn a lesson but I get the impression they just don't care, I think there's a lot of snow in North West Spain at the moment too

Possibly just the 'Cork Office', I must say I got excellent customer service when they (the Cork Office) abandoned me to my own devices last May and I contacted BF's head office in Brest and in turn Portsmouth who dealt with my issues very professionally and to my full satisfaction.

Hi we are in Santander waiting for the Sunday sailing back to cork, should have sailed today,a nuisance I know, but I would rather be here than bouncing around the bay of biscay.
Weather not bad here today, dry and fresh, very wet last night and windy. Some snow on the hills.
All ferry sailings out of here are cancelled until sunday.
There is another Irish couple here waiting as well.A well
The wine is cheap and good. Bernard and Clodagh.

Sorry to hear there have been people left waiting both here and in Spain. Hope you're getting to make the best of a bad situation.

Booked 2 weeks ago to sail with them for the second time next summer. Despite the worry before we left this year given the hassle experienced by other passengers up to June, but we couldn't fault it at all and absolutely loved Northern Spain .... Let's hope this is just weather related and won't be an ongoing feature of this ferry company- again!

As others have said it's not such a big deal if you've got flexibility but we're very much tied to dates as are most people.

No, luckily we’re not time limited and will be OK. Having all planned and van packed is a pain though. Still, I’m sure the mrs will have a host of little jobs for me to do around home for the next week !!
A week will pass quickly enough and fully agree that it’s best to be at home rather than a bad crossing.... and I have to realise that it’s out of the operators hands with weather constraints.
it’ll all work out in the end.

If time allows travelling to Spain via France isn't too bad, I've done quite a few times.
First night off the ferry I generally pull into an Aire in The Rennes area
The second night my favourite is St. Romain La Virvee near Bordeaux
Third night in Spain at for example Vitoria Gasteiz or for example Pamplona
You are now well positioned for either the route to the south of Spain via Madrid or eastern Spain via Zaragoza

If travelling via Madrid the Aire at Pinto is ideal, it's next to a huge shopping centre were E.Leclerc is the anchor tenant and the service station has the cheapest diesel in Spain, there's also a commuter train into the heart of Madrid close by.

To Vitoria Gasteiz or Pamplona, it's about 120 litres of diesel, French toll for the Bordeaux - Spain bit are about €23

Dont mind the drive through France Colin, we've done it a few times. We always sail home via the Cherbourg route as we love the French leg of the trip and the weather is ususlly better around our return time (late winter/early spring).
We had intended to travel the route you mention via Madrid as we had not done that one before but with the shorter time we now have to spend en-route (we fly home 16th Dec) it may be a bit tight to explore that option as we have to make the Alicante region for the flight, MH storage and our dog sitter. We fly back out on 3rd January.
I'll look at it again and maybe still take that route.

@Pam Bam
On board tonight, the ferry is a lot nicer than the Connemara, nice bar area and the dining area is bigger. Shop is quite good too. Seems more spacious and the pet area is much bigger, albeit still a walkway.
Cabins are the usual ferry fare, clean and everything you need, the food is the usual ferry grub.... acceptable.
All in all it’s more comfortable than the Connemara and good enough for the Motorhome traveller.

Little tip when sailing in high seas sit in the middle of the ship they have less roll in the centre of gravity,ie, half a mtr in centre is one and a half mtr at the windows or side of the ship ,take it from a sailor and better still go as far forward on the ship as possible 🤢🛥

I learned that years ago when I regularly did the Dublin/ Birkenhead route, I always looked for a cabin as near to centre as possible, when going to France I never book a window cabin

I honestly think that is the reason Brittany are cancelling sailings... to consolidate numbers.
There wasn’t 30 passengers on this sailing, one deck with about 20 vehicles, total.
Has to be running a loss and won’t last if this is the case. One sailing a week in the winter would be enough.

If they can afford to run one sailing a week with an affordable price it should work,

My main reason for not going to France/Spain in recent years is simply the price (and 2 weeks holidays from work at a time)

Hope it works out but im guessing Jon will think twice before booking with BF again
