Lost for Words - Van Window Stolen.....

I was in the pub on Friday night and the father in law came up for a chat. "What happened the passenger window on the van". I hadn't a clue what he was talking about as I see the passenger side of the van daily since it's beside where the car is parked. He followed up with "I noticed it two days ago, it's smashed".

He dropped me home at 2am and I checked the passenger window and it was fine. He told me the other side..... Penny dropped, it's a LHD van so he was thinking the RHD passenger side but was actually the drivers side.

Low a behold, the drivers window was smashed and on further inspection the large diner window is gone. Someone has smashed the driver window to get in and steal the habitation diner window. Nothing else in the van seems touched. All the cabinets closed, money/change in the cab not touched, nothing. Just the diner window has vanished.

I don't know when it happened and my CCTV is showing nothing. They might have studied the house to avoid the cameras.

I now need a left hand side Ducato x230 cab window and a large diner window from a 23 year old motorhome (Knaus Traveller 705 HF).

Strangely I'm a little more at peace that it was a targeted break-in and the scumbag took exactly what they wanted rather than opportunist just out to wreck something. It's sickening that you work hard to get something like a motorhome and it's just an invitation to the scum of the earth.

I'm not sure is it even worth claiming from the insurance as it might hike up my other policies (house, car, motorcycle etc).

That’s horrible,
Why can’t people just source their own parts.
If you get the exact size from another van and then try this website and if you get one be sure to get the aluminium hinge as well as they differ.
Good luck in your quest

I sorry to hear your van got hit by another scumbag, what makes it worse is the taught that it's another motorhomer that's responsible
But even more annoying is once again the bloody insurance company's win again because of the treat of increased premiums :(

Yes the insurance companies win...

They would never take my no claims bonus earned on the motorcycle into consideration for the car yet if I have a claim on the bike, they will take that into consideration for the car and up the premium.

Horrible thing to happen Jack. Stolen to order no doubt, but it beggars belief that someone would do that. Hope you get sorted, the drop glass won’t be difficult to get, the dinette window may be more difficult.

Sorry to hear that, hope you get sorted soon. As Martin said it is another Motorhomer and not terrible far away from you that was behind this. You are not the only one to be targeted in this way, a guy I know had his door mirror robbed from his Motorhome outside his house also.

I should make it as public as possible on social media etc perhaps local paper. Some one may know who wanted one

Nextdoor is brilliant for that. Surprised it isn't in Ireland yet. I use it all the time now in NI.

Stealing parts is nothing new. About 20 years ago one of the skylights and a few other bits were stolen from my caravan. The thief left a tv and other stuff untouched.
A friend had ALL the bits stolen off his caravan down one side, wheel arch, heater flue, rear light fitting etc. obviously by or for someone doing a repair on a similar model after a sideswipe.
There must be some very dodge repairers out there :(

Maybe we should get the chassis number (or reg. no.) engraved on all our windows like is done by manufacturers of caravans.

Sorry about theft. I had a window broken on an attempted break in. I claimed on the windscreen/glass part of my insurance. It does not affect your no claims bonus. It did not affect my car insurance either which I renewed this week. Talk to the insurance company to see what the story is.

Thanks for all the comments. I'm with Stuarts so I'll see if the cab windows are covered without losing the no claims bonus.

You will probably need to report it to the police and get a report from them for the insurance company. the habitation window should be covered too, I am sure Dolmen cover them.
