Fitted the 8KW chinese diesel heater today to my garage :)

A temporary setup just to get it going and I'll tidy it all up afterwards.

My goodness! the heat out of that thing!! amazing, once I figured out how to get it to work initially by asking @JJF who had set them up and he sent me a video, it is tricky, it got hot then it got very hot! Another learning curve to figure out how to get it down from 35 degrees to around 15 and then it calmed down a bit.

All considerably easy once you do it once.

Extremely impressed.

------------
Did I spill any diesel? it wouldn't be a proper fitting unless i did :)

What did it cost you Ally?

How much diesel does it burn per hour roughly?
I know it depends on size of room and temp you want to reach, just an idea im after,

That sounds like good value and only .6 of a litre an hour is pretty good in fairness (red/green diesel of course)

Hmm, I can't get it to turn itself off. I had it set for 12 degrees, it was 21 and it was still going.

@JJF Any idea's?

Is the stat getting heat?
Move the stat so that it kinda in middle of the room to check if it turns off when it reaches temp

Done that, I practically put it in front of the unit. Still didn't turn off.

I’d say the stat is not working, not connected, or bypassed somehow, so

Sounds like a stat issue,
The thermoresistor is where the wire goes into the LCD display, looks like the head of a match. When the room goes up to temperature the heater unit slows down and in fact just runs at take over until the temperature goes down to the selected setting and it speeds up again. It has a +/- temp swing of 3deg C.
I never had the issue. Replacement LCD or if you want I would have a thermoresistor that you can solder in. We use the same value thermoresistor for temp control in the brewery.

It never actually stops?

It's slowing down ok, but I'd of thought it would stop completely.

No, when it reaches it’s programmed temperature it runs on tickover and keeps the core warm otherwise it requires lots of power to constantly activate the glow plug when re-alighting. It runs on a very low flame setting for that reason. On tickover it’s drawing about 450 to 700 mA. Clever really.

Any idea of the current when it runs in normal heat mode.

Depending on fan speed and fuel pump frequency. On full blow mode and max fuel demand it draws just over 4 amps/48 Watts. On light up cold start mode with fan speeding up, fuel pump in and glow plug ignition it’s drawing between 9 amps/10 amps but that’s only for a short time.
I was measuring an average draw of between 2 amps to 4 amps on run mode when it’s up and running. At idle it’s less than 1 amp.
Hope this helps.

Do the fuel pumps on those heaters make a lot of noise? ticking?

Yes, if mounted on a hard surface. They come with a hard rubber mount but best mounted on an additional 6mm rubber ‘spool mount’ to damp the knock. The frequency of the pulse controls fuel flow.
It’s the one complaint that I have with them, if I fit more I’ll look at mounting the pump outside and below floor level.

Would I fit one to a Motorhome?

I don't think I would, especially when other options are available.

Why?

Noisy pump and the the fact they take ages to start up and stop. It doesn't just switch off when at temp, it goes into a slow power mode which is using power and diesel. Of course you can switch it off but then if you want heat again it's going to take a while, far to long IMO on a cold night. I really can see this as either keeping the van too warm or too cold.

They are noisy, not very efficient and power hungry due to them not switching off.

Propex blows it out of the water, but at six times the price 🤔

Be any good keeping frost out of a shed where a MH is being stored?

I use mine in the garage, it does the job well. It does come with timers, so could be set for the colder hours.

But, as above, you wouldn't want to leave it on all the time, would use to much diesel as it doesn't shut down on the stat and it does say it is not recommended for that much operating.

SWMBO loving the diesel heater. Need clothes quickly dried in the garage, 21 degree's.

No rush for them, leave it on 8 degree's on tickover and they'll dry in a few hours using hardly any diesel

Some would say "why not use a tumble dryer", well there is a good reason why we don't ;)

Use to cut turf when I was young.
As far as I could ascertain the only person that they warmed was my mother as she was flat out carrying them in and carrying out ashes with the sweat blinding her.
Useless stuff as a fuel.

The smell of burning turf announces the arrival of Christmas for us.

I couldn't imagine a Christmas day without the smell wafting through the house.

I'd better stock up with a couple of tons...

Too much carbon being released by cutting turf.

The same here 👍

And as for carbon, all these gas guzzling motorhomes could be put off the road 😁😁

Yeah they will eventually, in the meantime doesn't mean we shouldn't cut down were possible in other areas. We can do without turf.

I used to help my dad when he was cutting peat. I preferred jumping of the banks. I do remember his home made suntan lotion was olive oil and vinegar mixed. Can’t think of anything worse as a sun tan lotion

Aww the Chinese diesel heater fans are getting upset at me 😂

Fact: it's not efficient compared to more expensive heaters. It doesn't switch off so it's using power constantly. That might be a small amount of power, but it's power and we all know how hard it is to keep those batteries up in the winter.
If you are a weekend warrior or use it as extra heat then fine.

But I wouldn't fit one as primary heat for how we use a Motorhome.

There is, read my posts above. Most seem to love them, I'm wondering how they use their vans. Two nights max I'd reckon, then your batteries would be dead.
