Electric conversion

!!!!!!!Amendment to previous post!!!!!!

Hi all, I just recently bought a 1994 ducato in excellent condition, left hand drive.
Will be getting electric conversion as it has no power steering. I am just wanting to know if it’s possible to get the gear arm on the wheel changed to a gear stick and if anyone has ever done it and if it is costly?

I have been advised that you cannot buy a left hand conversion kit by a mechanic, wanting to know if this is correct and what else can be done if anyone could please give some advice. Much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I seen kits online if your van doesn’t have power steering, so when I phoned up to enquire they said it can only be fitted in right hand drive vans.

Was hoping someone may have had something similar in an older van completed.

And the gear shaft, whilst not a necessity I was just looking to see again if anyone done it previously to see costs and if it made much difference to the overall drive

Thanks.

Do you really need the power steering? when driving Motorhomes without it I always just made sure the wheels are moving before turning the wheel. Never had any big problems.

I’m not to sure to be honest...think it’s more a nerve thing to be honest I drove the van from Belfast to Donegal with no issues, but thought it might make me that bit more at ease when taking it out initially.

Thanks for the input much appreciated

If your age is correct on your profile I don't think you should have any problems. I'd definitely take it a few more trips before making your mind up. Nothing to be nervous about, take your time and stuff the other road users until you get used to it ;)

Think you are looking for the conversion in the wrong Country, Try the continent for a kit where LHD is the norm.

Thanks for the help everyone....going to get to grips with driving the van firstly and then make any changes that might be needed next year...hopefully when I’m a bit more clued in lol

Last question.... need a new bulb for above the table for the 1994 ducato. Does anyone know the type of bulb or best place to buy them... there was no bulb in it when I got it to compare it to.

Just bring the van to any auto factors and they will have one. That looks like a standard type that are in most cars, vans, etc. well any that are more than a few years old anyway. All you need to get right is the length. Even that can be manipulated a bit by bending the bulb holder ( gently) in or out to suit

looks like a single contact 5w or 21w bulb, do it say what wattage on the lamp? be careful with a 21w it might get too hot and start melting things around it
