Info on conversions

Hi,
I'm planning on converting a Sprinter with my dad, (hes an engineer). We are trying to find information about what hoops we would need to go through...registration, regulation details. etc. Have been on the the VRT people...they dont know...have tried ringing the revenue...no answer. Anyone been there and done that? Would be great to get a bit of wisdom as I know from importing vehicles from the UK, the revenue can come out with a measuring tape to check heights etc. Many thanks!

Hi Benny

I do The Camping Crew Podcast with Arron and we are releasing a new episode tomorrow (episode 33) and it will include and interview with one of our listeners that converted a camper earlier this year. He gave us lots of really good information and tips including how he went about SQI certification.

You can listen on Spotify, on your favourite podcast app or online: He is the list: https://anchor.fm/the-camping-crew

Regards
Chris

It would be worth your while to look at other converted Sprinter and Crafter vans to see how and where they have everything fitted. you don't say where you are located

I assume you are based in the republic since you mention vrt. However, if on the off chance you are in the north then read these threads.

https://motorhomer.com/threads…dow.40930/

https://wildcamping.co.uk/thre…nts.77349/

The dvla for reasons unknown have produced a list of ‘must have’ features to make the conversion ‘look like a motorhome’.

These include extra windows, graphics, awning rail, vehicle must be a high top but pop up roof does not count. All a bit draconian.
