New MVNO running on the Eir Network

Like it says on the tin, unlimited Calls and Data for €10 per month
Fair Usage limit of 80GB per month over which they may restrict speeds
10GB monthly allowance when roaming
No restriction on tethering

https://gomo.ie

Signed myself up yesterday and signed my good lady wife up today, bye bye Vodafone

I really want to sign up for this but I could do with a phone upgrade too. Upgrading would lock me into a contract for another 24 months. I’m still trying to figure out what to do.

Buy Sim only plan and buy a phone without a contract, Sim free available in argos,
Works way cheaper in the long run, and you can change provider if you are not tied to a contract

Well the GoMo is sim only. I would have to get my current phone unlocked. It would be out of contract now so that shouldn’t be a problem. It’s a good offer , I might just go for it.

Hmm. I’m not out of contract until the end of January. I’d guess the 100000 will be gone by then. I wonder could you get a new number now, and change it to my own number when contract is up. Anyone know if this is doable. I’m with eir now and coverage is good generally

Personally id wait a while and get feed back as it could be a disaster,
Also find out where the call centre is based......if its in Mumbai or that neck of the woods id think twice,

I've been on SIM only plans for a number of years. €200 to €250 can get you an excellent phone SIM free but you can decent phones for less, quite a few online stores that offer Chinese branded phones with really good hardware shipping from European warehouses so quick delivery and no duty.

100,000 is a big number to change mobile operator. I don't imagine it will be all that quick.

I’m not sure about that one Daffy. You can set a future date to port over your old number but it seems to max out at under 30 days. If you ordered a GoMo sim now under a new number, can you then change to your old number once your Eir contract finishes? It sounds like you should be able once you’ve given them the go ahead. I don’t know.

Or perhaps GoMo would replace your GoMo sim come January with a new one using your old number seeing as you already have signed up for the deal.

I just said what the heck, I’m paying 40 odd a month, so I signed up.

My phone is Dual SIM so I did the side by side comparison this evening

GoMo with 4 bars of 4G

Vodafone with 5 bars of 4G

The network is the Eir/Meteor Network.

You used to be able to pick your number, that’s how I ended up with an 087and an 086 with the same number. Tried to get 085 but they wouldn’t allow it. What prefix have this crowd got

I thought all the virtual network providers had the 089 prefix,

Good to see an 085 for a change

Was looking at this, it's a budget company set up by Eir using the Eir 4g network and that's the catch Eir will be rolling out their new 5g network to customers in the next month or so. Gomo will still be on the 4g network. Also while you get 80gig of data in Ireland your limited to 10gig in Europe with pretty severe fees for going over.

On the plus side the customer support centre is in Limerick and even better news it's not Eir's customer support or should I say no support.

Customer support is by web chat only, That can be very frustrating if you can speak to somebody and have it sorted in no time,

Still at a tenner its worth a shot,

Ill be sticking with Tesco for a while more as I have no complaints and find the tarriff is spot on for me,

Vodafone allow you to bring your full allocation of data when roaming, they're the only ones who don't apply a similar roaming data cap to the best of my knowledge.

Their cheapest SIM only plan currently available is €25 per month for the first 6 months and €35 after that so averages €30 per month or 3 times the price for the 12 month contract. It does include international minutes which will make it good value for some people. So for three times the price, you can get to bring the full allocation of 20gb when you roam, yes 20gb per month for 3x the price.

You pay your money and you take your choice.

The same here, hopefully Tesco will lose a lot of customers and have to drop their price 😁

Now I’m wondering how viable it would be to run a second GoMo sim in a hotspot router as my main house broadband router and ditch my Virgin media €50 p/m plan? 🤔

You would probably have to check out download speed etc

True. When I switch my phone over, I can operate it as a hotspot for a while and see how it performs as a home router.

It's the way to go, our home sim router is great, and we can bring it with us when touring. No fixed line so no bills and no extra Sim deal for touring, it's a win win.

I bought my own, a TP-Link. I am sure the provided Three router would of been good enough on the HomeFi sim. But I know and trust TP-Link routers.

Some do not come with aerial sockets, so if you go that way make sure they have two (two needed for 4g and above) aerial sockets to expand your signal if you need or want too.

I would have to go the way of a sim router for sure. TP link are a good brand. I might have to go shopping 😉

So I just did Some speed testing there. The results don’t look too promising for my indoor 4G speeds. My mobile phone is only achieving paltry 3G speeds of 1.5 mbps indoors, on the Eir network. My home WiFi will give me well over 100 mbps. When I step out into my back yard, my mobile gets 4G at a respectable 40 mbps.

Unless I can somehow boost my 4G reception in the house, it makes no sense for me to ditch the cable broadband for GSM. Has anyone managed to use an external outdoor antenna with a 4G router?

Well you saw an improvement by switching. I’m currently seeing about 140 mbps on my WiFi. I would be happy to see 40 mbps if I switched to 4G. Wish I could test out gear before buying but I’ll just have to bite the bullet probably. Thinking cap time 🤔

Too kind Ally. Really not necessary though. I know an electronics dealer that could probably sort me out or let me try out some gear.

Cheers tho

All going good with the GoMo since I switched over. I have been running my mobile on GoMo all week and it is working just fine. That should save me about €400 a year in bills. I just wish they would make the TV ads stop 😏

That’s good to know Witzend. I don’t think I’ll proceed with ditching the house broadband in favour of GoMo after all. The GoMo has a fair useage allowance of 80GB. A bit low for domestic. And even with a booster aerial, best speed I could get will probably be about 30mbps. I can over 200 on the home WiFi.

30mbps might not be bad and quite likely good enough for streaming etc. , but these numbers won’t look so good as we progress down the line. With lightning speed broadband, 5G, streaming video games and 4K video around the corner, a 4g sim for my home broadband might just not cut it. I can see it would be grand for a lot of people but I think I’ll stay on Virgin broadband. Although, it would be worth me ditching the hundreds of tv channels I don’t watch 🙄
