Gormanston Beach, Co. Meath

Paid a visit to Gormanston Beach today in the van (Knaus 6-berth, 3500kgs). I had done a recce a few weeks back to see how hard packed the sand was and figured it should be ok. The sand took the van no problem and I figure it could be a good spot for wild camping. There's two entrances to the beach that I used and both are very narrow but I got down no problem - I entered by the south entrance and left using the north one - maybe only 400m apart.

Highly recommended spot that I'll return to even for another day out to the beach with the kids. Shallow beach and the kids had a ball - walk a good distance out into the sea before it becomes waist high. Could even be used as an overnighter before the ferry as it's only 30-40 minutes down the M1, through the Port Tunnel into Dublin Port.

In the photo's below you can see where the tide comes up to (darker sand on the right).

Nearest town is Balbriggan, less than a 10 minute drive.
3 minute drive/20 minute walk to a pub I passed.
6 minute drive to an Applegreen service station.

Looks like a good spot, but we would be the ones to get stuck on the sand. Much prefer the cliffs behind you.

Has anyone checked if their motorhomes are insured while on the sand?

id be very careful on Gormanstown beach with the tides. I have fished there a lot, and there have been times when the tide comes right up to that grass verge, particularly down near the estuary at the south end by the bridge.
Could be only on the spring tides, but its the same at the northern end with the slip road up to the road that leads out.

Is it a good beach for fishing?

Dreadful. Like most of the shores on the east coast. If you know any good spots be sure to share. Although there were a lot of flats and im told a sea bass caught from near the bridge where the estuary feeds in to the sea.

Spoke to locals, tide doesn't come up far except for Spring tides. It's clear where it comes up too when you're here.

Google tide tables.
The tides are predictable for the next 2000 years if no one nukes the moon.

A tide just after a new or full moon, when there is the greatest difference between high and low water.
