Is there anyway to have a vehicle weighed and downplated at the same time as converted to motorhome without using SV Tech etc? If not and i need to go through SV tech, I would prefer to just weigh the vehicle once so when is the best time to do this? After the SQI report? I have read lots of the previous posts here but cant seem to find any info on it. Sorry if it has already been covered. Thanks. P.S vehicle needs to be downplated from 3850kg to 3500kg.

They're usually 3,850KG for a reason. So that you can have a payload...
Mine is plated 3,850KG; but with just myself (73KG), everything for a 2 + 2 family holiday, full fuel tank, 2 x full 24KG tanks of gas, about 30 litres of water, a spare wheel, 4 x bicycles and all the other bits and pieces for the holiday, it's sitting at 3,500KG. 2000 of that is on the rear axle... Max'ed out!

Getting a C1 would cost about €600.

Thanks for the reply. I only have B licence and it was a 16 minibus that i am converting. It now only has driver and 1 passenger seat and will never have anywhere near that kind of weight again so i think it makes sense to downplate to 3500kg and not change licence.

You in NI or RoI?

You can do it yourself if you are in NI, I am not sure about RoI. You download the forms and send them in. I have no time at the minute to get a link, so hopefully someone can point you in the right direction until I get time.

You are probably right in down plating it just don’t get carried away by fitting heavy solid furniture and fittings. It will certainly be more salable under 3500kg

I would think that when you have it finished and ready to have it inspected weigh it on a registered scales, then the SQI can include the new weight in his report.
You would Probably need the unladen weight verified by someone like an SQI. Anyway.

Call the SQI and ask him.
