I consider the idea that our phone's mics are secretly turned on and are listening a step too far. But you bring an Alexa in to your house or always have Siri turned on, then you have more or less consented to being listened too. And who knows how much recording or for how long it is kept.

amazon-echo-alexa-evidence-murder-case. OK so in this case the authorities requested Alexa recordings to catch a killer, a good thing surely. But it just goes to show that Amazon is recording its customers.

Why would anyone bring an Alexa in to their house?

Stay safe and use linux with a tor web engine,if buying a mobile then a farephone or nexus 5 running pure android or sailfish with no google spyware,never ever use windows on a pc or google.
