I am glad you asked the question, I am In a similar position. I don't think I can justify the price of sat dishes and domes even if I could afford them, we don't watch that much TV when we are away. We are very soon to get a new van and I have been looking at the Status 350 which seems to be fitted on a lot of vans now when new. Just put it on the roof and forget about it, no poles protruding down into your wardrobe or cupboards and no fiddling with it. As I said to the missus, if we get a picture we watch it.....if we dont we go for a walk.

Milenco power 900 is a very good aerial if you do a search on the site here there's some reviews on it

Avtex do a portable aerial which you can stick on the outside of the van when required, I used one on my last van when I didnt want to put the sat dish up and never failed to get a picture. Current van has a Status aerial on a pole through the roof for when her indoors wants to watch the soaps

There are alternatives to watching telly if no signal.

No sniggering at the back!

BBC has the excellent i-Player and the downloads onto an i-Pad are quick and can be stored for a month or so.

Also quite a few TV's play stored programmes from a memory stick.

That can't be done in ROI whereas a TV aerial can be used Britain /NI/ ROI and if you're fluent in a European language, there too

Hmmm........ Does RTE have a system whereby you can download to an I-Pad for viewing later?

We had a status and now a Milenco, I find it much handy’r than the status for picking up channels it is not perfect though, never got tv with it in Ardmore or didn’t get reception in the Flesk site in Killarney recently either. It is quit good most of the time

Ardmore is a very hit and miss spot for terrestrial TV it seems to be in a hole and you'll need height to get signal don't know about Flesk surround by mountains so I would expect signal

I had a Maxview Omnimax system in my van until the aerial was knocked off by a tree last week. They no longer make this type of aerial. and the updated pro omnimax would mean I would have to change the aerial mount and the booster. Would anyone know where I could try for a replacememt aerial please.

TV used to be on a lot more than it has been this year. We have a satellite dish but rarely use it. Bought THIS a few months ago. Really didn't really think it would be up to much, it just looks like a flat piece of plastic, but being an Amazon Prime member would allow me to return it for free, no risk. Turns out it's brilliant, used in both North and South, sometimes it may only find 10 or so channels (but sometimes my old roof aerial was no better) but always a couple of the main ones.

Was thinking on one of those as a sort of back up when I get very little on fixed aerial.

Although these days usually stream netflix when I can't get TV.

What’s the simplest way to stream to tv, and do you need a smart tv. I have a cello 19” about 3 years old

Simplest way is via a firestick if you don't have a smart TV. USB socket usually powers it as well.

Also give it to the right person and the possibilities are amazing 🤫😁

Or just watch the legal stuff, Amazon, Netflix etc

Will a fire stick work in the south. I know they didn’t a few years ago. Would you know of such a man. I’d be very interesting in acquiring one of them

Not sure they do but plenty of other options. Get an android box, get a smart box that basically turns your TV into a smart TV.

I use something different, there are others on here using what you need if you can't use a firestick..,..... Thinking about actually....

If you want the illegal stuff like IPTV the firestick will work anywhere in the world.

No such thing as a digital aerial, an aerial is an aerial, so yes it would.

I used mine in Athlone on Thursday night as the picture was breaking up. It got a perfect picture. I tried the same in a different place and it didn't help.

So it helped once and for less than £7 I'm glad I got it.

That’s a fancier version of the one I have and if there’s is reception about it will get it. Only in the likes of Glenarm can I get no reception with it.
