Bought this off Robbie on the site

forum/topic.php?t=16276

and spent another £200 on it, having it modified to make it more secure when carrying my BMW R1200GS Adventure. Looks like a trailer, but is in fact a rack with castor wheels which swivel when in reverse. This means the rack is fixed and the wheels point where the vehicle is going and no trailer reversing skills are required.

I fitted a locking wheel wheel chock and extra tie down points for my 1200cc Adventure bike, new light bar and it comes with a spare wheel. I only used it once, on a Craic meet to the North West 200 last year.

Spoke to the manufacturer as I was concerned about the weight of my bike, he stated the system is rated for a bike at 250KG althought the system could carry up to 500kg. Reason for the 250 limit was due to stress on the tow bar. As the towbar on my motorhome was well braced I was more than happy to go with it.

Asking less than it stands me.... £800

Those wheel chocks are a grand job. I got one for my bike trailer. It makes it a lot easier loading & unloading the bike.

Do you know the weight at tow hitch that it was for yours?

Sorry Killiand, I never measured the nose weight. The only thing I can say is it was not noticeable behind the Motorhome.

I dont know that the info would be on a manufacturer plate.

Just put a block of wood, the height of the tow ball, on a scales that's how I have always found the weight.

Virtually negligible, that type of setup is cantilever which latches on the bottom of the ball with 2x 19mm pins and levers up and down freely and all the weight is taken on the wheels of the unit. There is a side load under turning but only to the extent of castering the wheels. A really clever setup that has the benefit of not having reversing limitations.

The term pentilever sounds familiar. There is an "up and down" pivot in the system, which removes the stresses on the towbar, but it also has a left/right centre pivot which operates like a set of old fashioned scales to allow for potholes or speed ramps.

Both combined mean minimal stress on the towbar.

Braking is where the stresses come in. Hence the recommended 250KG limit for regular towbar. Stronger, braced systems can handle up to double that according to the manufacturer
