I hope they are all ok.
One thing really bothers me about the photo is that the gas bottle was obviously not secured.

I think an impact of that magnitude Martin it would be difficult to prevent it being torn out. I know mine is held in with a light nylon strap.

It certainly is scary to see just how flimsy motorhomes are. You would think they must have both been going pretty fast for that much damage.
Hope all are o.k.

makes me wonder if motor homes have been tested to destruction.

You'll find plenty of motorhome crash test videos on YouTube. Scary stuff.

Looking at those pictures makes me wonder if motor homes are fit for the purpose they where intended for cars and vans have all been tested to destruction wonder what crash tests motor homes have had if any.

Balsa wood and paper is what they might as well be made off. The majority of them are rubbish, how the manufacturers have been getting away with it for so long baffles me. I don't know of any buses with damp problems. The industry needs a good boot in the preverbials.

They are only made of light wood and insulation put on a chassis, and caravans are worse

Hope all involved are ok.
If they built them the way they should be we would all need heavy goods drivers licence and think the cost of Diesel and tyres.

There are enough materials on the market today that are stronger than wood and are very light.

Do hope the occupants escaped serious injury, it does however show what the construction of a motorhome is, because it is stripped down to a bare minimum to get it as light as possible. This van was rear ended as they were both on the motorway, this where it is at its most vulnerable, I do hope nobody was sitting inside the van part.

Ally, did you ever see on Utube, Why GM Cancelled The 1973- 1978 Motorhome I can imagine even now with a little cumming diesel engine and a few upgrades it would still sell and be safe.

Crickey. I’m going to be more diligent about turning off my gas at the cylinder when on the move. Last thing you would need on top of a collision is to be spewing gas.

Hopefully they will be well and home soon.
I didn’t see any of the crash videos, how did the A class compare to the van type cab? You would think you would have more protection in the metal van type cab.

It seems it might be the opposite Pat. Check out this Link. They crash test an A Class and B Class. They seem to suggest that the driver and passenger would fair better in the A class due to the way it crumpled more and the front seats migrate right back into the lounge, i.e. better shock absorption.

Check out the carnage in the video caused at only 40mph!

Safety was something I never considered before when buying a Motorhome, that is after opening my eyes.
