Is it me, or does the suspension look modified/lowered (not just the weight of the bed-camper weighing the vehicle down)

You’d need a forklift to get in/out of it 🤣
Tied on with a couple ratchet straps....... what’s wrong with that 🤣

That camper body looks like it was designed for pick up like a hi lux etc. they have a pallet of some kind under it for the Luton to clear the cab. I think Kevin is right it looks to be lowered, that gave the impression that it was way over weight. I wonder how you are covered with insurance if that Transporter is commercially insured?

This German guy that I met in the Rhine valley claims that he is legal.
The van is registered as a demountable box van for his courier business.
For hols, He swaps on the caravan and has engineering reports for such.
But on the back of the caravan, not in the camera shot, he uses bungee cords to strap on the 5 step, A frame ladder.
Imagine a step ladder for entering the wagon. Not the best after a few beers.

The scary thing about the guy in Tip is the simple fact that the right kind of simple siding or fascia could mean he went completely unnoticed, in my opinion.

A very badly mounted demountable. His bed is too long and his cab is too high, necessitating the improvised spacer.

Don't often see demountables with irish plates, I'd image that vehicle classification / motor tax would be precarious to say the least, and thats before we mention insurance.

A GB reg demountable was beside me in the Aire at Le Pin Parasol in the Vendee recently, he's getting rid of his, partly because of the insurance situation over there. Can only imagine it'd be much worse in Ireland.

Anyway the guy with the demountable was saying that the L200 he had it on was an absolute pig to drive when anything was loaded in the overhanging bit at the rear and in particular it was very noticeable if the water tank was full, extra distance of the weight from the rear axel made the front end really light.

I was going to suggest the same was happening here but looking back at the picture, the front is lowered too, its just a very badly mounted demountable sitting on a slammed transporter crewcab flat bed.

Just noticed the van is LHD. I wonder how far this vehicle has travelled! (from the continent?)

Can't see this link but why did they pull him it looks secure as a load

Curiosity got the better of me last night and I googled what the payload for crew-cab VW would be and it said 1200kg. I doubt that bed-camper was heavier than 1200kg, but you never know, they may have had it packed full with stuff.

I'll bet the lowered/modified suspension was the main thing that drew attention to them.

I don't know what a PSV inspector has anything to do with the prosecution. it wasn't a public service vehicle. Maybe they operated a local weigh-bridge to confirm the weight of the vehicle? I dunno.

Looks like a pretty dodgy load though. I wouldn't be happy driving with that.

Saw a picture of this van and the demountable on a tandem axle trailer on fb earlier, so he must have been allowed to proceed with it on a trailer

Similar but it was closer and the pickup was shown too.
