Fridge Vent door

 ·
Posted: 02.07.2019  ·  #1
Hello
Last week end we drove off to the beautiful Stragill beach outside Buncrana Co Donegal. I was looking into the vent for the fridge and I did not close the vent door properly. The door blew off somewhere (?) and now we got a price for a replacement of approx €300 This seems very expensive to us. Is this the price of these doors?? I am feeling very guilty and a bit stupid for such a mistake! I would be grateful for a bit of advice on this. We do need to go and get the fridge and cooker serviced but door must come first.
Any help would be appreciated

The size of the vent opening is 505mm X 327mm
Thank you
Una

Hello Again
Just to give you a break down of the costs. This is the reply I got
"Hi Una

The vent cover is €202.95
There is also 2 locks for the cover witch are €27.06 if required
I do not have these part in stock and will need to be ordered from the factory in Italy
There is also a shipping cost of €36.90 from the factory if required, "

I find this unbelievable! There you go though!

Is the top vent the same make and size.

You may be able to get a manufacturers part number from it.

The dimensions you gave, where were they taken. Is it the overall dimension of the front face of the cover. If not measure the other one to get the overall dimension.

The part is likely Dometic anyway, you should get a cover for much less than €300

Just remember that you want a grille cover only.
There is a winter type cover which is more solid with alot less holes for obviously colder European winter nights.

I've just had a better look at your photo and it does look like a special type of vent for your Laika van, I would try and get it from Laika directly or get a full replacement with a standard brand cover that fits the hole that the Laika one fits in, call into Donnaghys and see if this can be done

Ken Carol has a Laika, he might be able to give more info. I’m sure he’ll be fine with me giving his number out.

Sorry number has been edited out

Excuse my ignorance but what do you mean by "top vent"? The dimension are of the inside where the door would sit!

Una

Most fridges have two vents fitted to the side of the van. One is low, level with the bottom of the fridge. The second one is high, level with the top of the fridge. The upper one is to allow the heat to escape from the cooling fins on the back of the fridge.

Some fridges however have a chimney vent mounted on the roof. If yours is this style and doesn’t have a top vent then disregard my comment about a top vent. If you did have a top vent I had hoped you could get makers info from it.

It would still be worth looking at the frame of the grill which is fitted to your van to see if you can find a maker identification. Unlikely to be a Laika part, most likely to be someone like Dometic, Electrolux, Thetford, Waeco etc. If you can get a makers name then it should be easier to track down

Additional retention - Screw it in.

Having previously lost a vent cover on a road in France, I now put two screws in each vent in the side to ensure that they don't fall out. I checked the side walls before hand to ensure I wouldn't damage anything else with the screws.
