Spanish sim card.

I'm thinking of getting a pay as you go data sim for my trip to Spain. I'll be using it for maps, emails, looking up info and writing up a bit of a blog, and most importantly, keeping in touch with Motorhome Craic. Has anyone any experience Spanish sims ? What's the best deals, who to go with and who to avoid ? I'll only need it for a couple of months so no long contracts. All help and ideas appreciated. Thanks.

Previously we have bought data only SIM cards from vodaphone in Spain valid for 30 days with a set amount of data for a fixed price I cannot remember how much data or the price. Coverage was good. You need to have your passport on you to buy the sim.
When the international data roaming charges were dropped we found our uk and ROI sims easier and cheaper to use as we have good data allowances on our packages.

I agree with the above. We are both with eir. I have 15 gig and herself 10 gig per month. We both used it like we would at home and I used google maps on the phone for our travels. Never went over our allowance, wasn’t charged anything extra, and it worked as fast as at home, or better.

Worst case,
Check the allowence with your Irish provider (you will be paying for it anyway) and check out the price of a data add on if you are running out of data before the end of the month (if bill pay)
That way it might save you paying more for a seperate Sim / phone etc

I use my pay monthly O2. It uses data and calls just like home. I haven’t been charged any extra

This was Facebook page comment today:
Vodafone getting better for Data sims in Portugal, they were always reasonable, €15 for 15 gigs in 15days but today I have just got a 30 day one with 60 gigs for €30, so double the gigs for the same money.

I got a SIM card for France a few years ago and it was alright. But with the change in roaming fees, I haven't bothered again and just use the phone like at home. No issues and no surprise bills at the end of it either!

Thanks for the reply folks. I have a small data allowance on my phone plan, what do you expect when you're on the cheepskate €15 / month deal, and found it to be totally inadequate last year even though I purchased an extra 5 GB before I left. The easiest solution for me will be to get a local sim card and bring a second unlocked phone with me. It's hard to decide with all the different plans and companies.

We have the Vodafone £8.50 deal with 1gb data and unlimited texts and calls. Basic as it gets but it does us for our two weeks in France each year and any weeks in the south of Ireland we do. So no Netflix or streaming. Instead Wendy visited the new pop up Cystic Fibrosis Charity shop in Bangor today and bought 6 yet to be watched DVD’s.

Along with a bottle of French wine they will be brilliant no matter what. When we are home they will go to the next charity shop to be recycled.

Often thought about how we could share dvds on here, but no easy ideas as yet.

Liam. I’d be looking into that. You should have plenty at 5 gig add on.

As far as I know, it’s all EU countries.

All the SIM suppliers down here have free roaming within the EU but they put a cap on your allowance while abroad. That's why I don't want to go for an Irish SIM.

There is thing missed in this topic.
I am with virgin mobile Ireland.
When roaming, I get about 30%, of my normal data plan.
However after visiting about 8 different EU countries, I have not got 4g signal outside of Ireland.
Mhc only pulls about 150/200 mb of data daily for me.
It is video and tv/ movie apps that gobble up data.

The 3 ‘unlimited’ has been regularly costing me more like 200 euro per month... due to data and roaming calls

When I called them, they tried to tell me that czech is not in EU

It works Ok at home but I am going to change to something else. I might go back to eir prepay so I don’t get ripped off on direct debit
