If you just found out the other half had the weekend off and you'd three almost feral children (when they see open land) where could (and I say could) you go Friday and Saturday night. I was thinking Newcastle, but wow, it seems to be all booked up, Tollymore is full this weekend.

Any suggestions welcome.

If its a campsite how about Gosford forest park and it has a kids playground to tire the kids out along with great cycle paths.

http://www.carnfunnock.co.uk/ --- spaces available at the time of writing this. The parking bays are a bit close together and sometimes facing others but everything else is ok especially for children.

If your down this way castlewellen forest park seems to be a popular spot you might even get to see some of the aircraft from the show

You can stay in upper Donard car park during the day and on Saturday night after the air show in Newcastle. It’s the dedicated Motorhome parking for the show. That’s my plan anyway. You could stay in some of the local aires or stop overs from the app on the Friday night - just not any in Newcastle itself on the Friday night.

Thanks for all the suggestions, would loved to have done Newcastle but they'd not really like the carpark as they go a bit mad for open green and trees. castlewellen forest park have availability for Friday and Saturday but with no hookups in that area and the wife is not keen on that idea (she's originally from Bangor, if you know what I mean lol)

Love Gosford, it's a good area and is always our backup plan, but we were there a few weeks ago and it's very local to us, something a bit different I think.

Carnfunnock could be the one, just looking into it.

Thanks again, great help.

Try Kilbroney forest. Also Castleward and Delamont, but they are more expensive.

What about Lough Key Forrest Park just outside Boyle Co Roscommon ? https://loughkey.ie/ With Zipit, (highly recommended), Boda Borg and other activities including acres of forest to run wild in it might fit the bill. Don't blame me if the kids are too knackered at the end of the day. :-)

Can this have to be booked, or do you just turn up, what about spaces, could it be full at time of arrival on saturday?

If you fancy coming down to this part of the world Hidden Valley in Rathdrum, about 25 miles south of Dublin. Great kids activities. Has to be prebooked.

“Can this have to be booked, or do you just turn up, what about spaces, could it be full at time of arrival on saturday”

Just turn up. Drive in via shanslieve drive. Follow signs for YMCA Greenhill. It is unlikely to be overfilled as it is a large grass field. But do be aware that it slopes and more importantly the ground might be soft, so park with your drive wheels on harder ground if you can and use mats or similar to spread the load giving that all important traction. I always park with my van in the direction that I want to exit, which would also help if a tow was needed. (Got carried away with advice there!)

Yes bottom left hand corner of the photo but approach from where the red pin is, it through Donard car park where all the cars are on the right. I plan to be there about 11am on Saturday and did that 2 years ago and space should not be a problem. Plenty of open space and trees but no hook up of course. I have never used hook up when away from the house in the van. Never away that long at a any one time anyway. I should see some of you there.

I never knew this existed, thank you. I'll put it on the list
