Lost license and a ‘trip south’

** CONTINUED FROM ANOTHER TOPIC **

Well what a morning we had. So the van was all packed up and ready to go, leaving for France via Dublin Port. So when it came to retrieving my drivers license from the glovebox of my car , it wasn’t there. Long story short, my license is missing. We turned everything upside down but no good.

Anyhow, the missus is driving and she is not happy. We’ve just reached the M50 now but she is really not happy about having to drive on the French side. I’ve just been off the phone with the NDLS. I’ve requested a drivers statement. This should be emailed to me by Monday evening. They couldn’t tell me on the phone if the drivers statement is acceptable documentation by the French authorities/ police.

Any thoughts on this would be very welcomed. 😬

Did you ever take a photo of it. It might be on your phone/ laptop.?? In the last 4-5 years of going to France, I have never been asked for my license.

I do have photos on my laptop but never brought it. How serious could it be to be stopped without a license? When the statement comes through I won’t hesitate to get behind the wheel.

That's a right PITA.
In our few trips to France, we were never ask for a license.
If you're take a gamble, my advice would be to do the motorway leg of your journey and let herself to the local driving.
Once you have your drivers statement and passport, you should be ok.
Enjoy your trip and keep us posted.

I hope not. But you just gave me an idea. I would have emailed those scans to Stuart’s insurance a couple of years back. Pardon me, I’m going to go sifting through my mails.

I was waiting to board the ferry on Thursday in Rosslare and the garda impounded a car for out of date insurance so checks are done although I'm sure you're well sorted Jason

Just did the drive down from Cherbourg to Saumur. Once I had the scan of my license I haven’t given it a second thought Dave. Happy Days!

Glad to see you have a copy of licence at least. In 40 years of driving through France by motorbike, car and camper I have never been asked for my licence - only my passport at any checks so you should be fine. Have a great trip look forward to hearing about your progess.

Great your heading a bit south then. Let me know how the weather is there Dave. It’s only in the high teens here. Mild but not amazing.

Well we were planning Ile de Re next but with forecasts of mid to high teens, we checked out Rochefort forecast instead. That looks more promising so we will probably head there tomorrow.
