Surely a pay as you enter barrier would be the most cost effective. If you're beyond the barrier you've paid. Need little or no enforcement and an electronic payment by contactless payment (tap) means no one has to empty it.

Makes sense to me

Unfortunately, the layout of the area and the need for free access to the car parking section and for tour coaches serving cruise liners make a pay as you enter barrier system impractical.

Well chausson, the walk to and from the pub is going to get longer.
At the dock where the cruise ships berth, the area that has painted footpaths, is going to be a closed restricted area when a ship is docked.
With the footbridge being closed due to renovations the walk will be a good 10 minutes longer.

That could put a dent in the popularity of Motorhome parking during the cruise liner season. We had a lovely meal in the Titanic Restaurant last night and the guy on the till told us that there could be Three or four liners a week mooring there during the season.

The renovations are now complete so the walk to the town should not be significantly impacted if the way through where the liners dock is closed.
The closure may not happen though as locals are committed to mounting protests whenever it happens, it is said that it is an ancient right of way in public ownership.

I believe a pay barrier is the real sulution to the non payment at Cobh, have it high enough that cars can pass under it and low enough to prevent campers from entering and have a special pass arrangement for the touring buses. It is a fantastic facility and should be respected.

Have to agree with Europa.

When the coaches are in with the Cruise Liners there's enough paid people about to control the barrier or have it open for the hour or so that the coaches are coming / going

I am of the opinion that it's the responsibly of the Co. Council to enforce the payment of parking fees.
Placing, electronic barriers is an additional cost which may risk other aires developments from taking place.
Actually in Cobh, the local garda station is only on the other side of the railway tracks.
A couple of summons to the local district court would do more to deter the offenders.

What about good old fashioned parking meters, at least it would be easy to see who have paid, I found the little ticket awkward with the remis blinds and condensation on the windscreen

The overall cost of an electronic barrier would, I suspect, be a lot lower that the cost of an enforcement official, someone to empty the cash from the pay and display machine and lost revenue from those who chose not to pay but then again I don't work for the council.

I read in the intro of all the Aires that a lot of the barriers at Aires in France that were installed are mostly broken or removed so they don’t seem like a long term option. The Aire at Portglenone has a barrier and must be prebooked so is more like a campsite than an Aire. For Portrush Aire you just use existing street parking machine.

There is a system available (from multiple suppliers) that detects whether a parking space is occupied or empty. This in conjunction with a pay & Display by bay number rather than receive a ticket would work. The principle would be that when you go to pay you enter the bay number you are parked in and put in your money, no need to display a ticket. If someone parked in a space for a period of time without paying then it could alert the wardens.

All very possible but a system like that is very expensive and the income from the Aire probably wouldnt justify the cost.

In the scheme of things €16k extra income is piss money ,its not worth the votes to sort it out ,the councillor involved will get more print ( read back this forum) and votes by complaining then she would, then by coming up with a solution.
What is the penalty for not paying,
offer the fine money to any council worker who finds anyone without a ticket. Problem solved with no cost to the council.

Just pulled into cobh and went to machine with my 10€ coins and no ticket came out the other machine wouldn’t take money at all so I’m presuming it’s full. Any advice I don’t want to be seen as a non payer as we love cobh

Take a note of the time and the fact it would not issue you with a ticket and the number of attempts you made to pay, and display it on a note on your dashboard. Big writing.

Didn’t work for a few more vans we were talking to have a sign in window and am going to ring cork coco on Tuesday, people are paying but if they are not going to maintain the machines it all comes down to old fashioned honesty,

If you are going to do anything make sure you direct your comments to the good Cllr Cathal Rasmussen and be sure to copy it to the local paper ( Irish Examiner ref the articsl of 17 Sep 2018Sean O’Riordan ) the one who reported it in the first place.

In Cobh over Easter for a few nights. Great facility and we'll worth the money. Have been there a few times before but this time noticed rats coming in from the railway line side. They were coming over to the motorhome side. I mentioned this to one of the council workers who said he would report it. Just a warning to keep doors etc closed.

Remember the window parking ticket clips. Cobh, parking & payment concerns. · Posted: 04.03.2019 - 08:37 · #23
Kevin, They would work brilliantly on the inside of the window next to the Hab Door, If we all made the decision to display all parking tickets in this way and place it might catch on.and also suggest to the council that they suggest all motorhomes using their Aire to do the same.

I just ordered 10 packs, so I will have them available for a small fee towards Allys expenses at the Craic Fest.
