Our old Facebook group was sitting there dormant, it was archived. I got talking to a Motorhomer I know and after discussions he decided he would like to admin the group. I insisted on a name change as Motorhome Craic is a registered trade mark and of course it isn't myself running it.

The person running it is a craic'er and is using a pseudonym for the time being.

So like another group I could mention, it starts off well with a lot of our members, only this one I have some stuff in writing.

He has called it "Motorhome Ireland" and I wish him all the best with it. If you are on that dreaded b****x they call Facebook then give him a visit, a lot of you will already be on it.

The group is not Motorhomecraic.

I’m on the group cos you invited me.... seemed rude not to😜
Was just wondering, after all the bad press you gave it a while ago, why you are back up on it. Is it becoming a necessity now. Not having any kind of a dig, just confused.... but that’s becoming more and more frequent. 😩 I am not on FB often, more now, that I’m in the “group” just for a look see. It seems very good btw

Necessary evil. I wish it's demise every single day, it has ruined the internet, but don't start me again :)

It does have its momentary benefits, all spontaneous, all lost in seconds but they are there. Hopefully we get back to the real internet soon.

As I'm sure you see, I promote MHC at every opportunity on MI and I will not apologise for that to anyone :)

As one that has not wondered down the rabbit hole that is Facebook, will I be missing out on any information by not being in that group, compared to being on this forum? I hope not. I will not be joining this cult of 2 billion people, ever!

Definitely not!! it's sh*t for information. As I say it is not Motorhomecraic, but what I post to MI will always be on MHC.

You most certainly do, I have noticed that. I mean it’s fine, but a lot of repeats of the same questions etc. I suppose that’s because nothing is retained. Still, another thing for me to browse, when I’m idle. Not a patch on the real thing though

Like others I’m another non Facebooker and rely on MHC for all info pertaining to motorhoming.
I know Ally will use MHC first for all news on that front and cross post to FB for the ones that haven’t used forums much.
Believe it or not, there is folk out there who use Facebook but haven’t a clue about other mediums and do not realise just how terrible a platform FB really is.
MHC all the way !

FB has changed the format of how the internet works on purpose. Some users of FB don't know that you can click on a link, partly to blame is FB as they don't want you going elsewhere. Users of FB don't know what a URL is, they don't know that stuff highlighted in blue on the web is clickable. All by FBs design to keep you there.

They have changed how the internet worked to suit there own needs, they are destroying the internet.

The trouble is many organisations have used FB as the main way of keeping customers up to date. For example I was looking for information on the a festival this week and there was far more up to date information on FB compared to the website so your are sort of forced onto FB. Like others I only use it for following companies and clubs rather than individuals. I have hidden the icon on a far off page on my phone so the app is not in my face every time I unlock my phone. A good way of half cutting the cord..

You can be addicted to more than than just Facebook. I’ve just noticed I have been promoted to “Craic addict” 🥴. I thought I just loved the craic and could stop at any time like Facebook. Who am I kidding...

i think every site wants to keep you on their page ,i don't agree about people not knowing how to negotiate around a page as its mainly young people using fb, not taking away from my age group, sometimes i get it wrong myself

MHC doesn't hold you here, it's a website, not a platform, it doesn't require your real name, we don't target adverts, we don't sell your information, we don't send spam, your security is of the up most importance.

Young or not, FB has changed the standard of the internet. Young people do not use Facebook as their main source. They use Instagram, Snapchat and twitter.

Young people used to be how we learned the internet "ask a five a year old" increasingly they are being dumbed down to FBs of kilter design.

FB is making the internet its own, we will have nothing else other than FB, Google, Amazon and eBay. It'll be controlled by those big names like our high streets.

Don't underestimate the power of their marketing and brain washing.

So we closed our FB group for the final time, it really is just a babysitting exercise. Same questions over and over and over and over and over!

Information lost in seconds, a wish wash of pointless work. A time consuming event for all the admin and moderators, deleting posts and following members around correcting them and then for the same wrong information to be posted seconds later.

It's not the user's fault it's the crap design of FB trying to be too many things and not being any good at nearly all of them.

It has benefits, it's good for quick announcements, good for alerts, good for selling. But as for information about as useless as a porcupine changing a wheel on a Motorhome.

So as above, we have left in place the biggest Irish motorhome sales group going on FB, it's used also by other groups and other groups are moderator's. No conversation allowed, just strictly motorhome sales and accessories sales and wants.

https://www.facebook.com/groups/irishmotorhomesales/

Bye bye Facebook, it wasn't a pleasure.
