Fridge tripping out on mains

Having a bit of a problem with my old Electrolux RM212F fridge, it seems to be working on 12v but when I try to switch to mains it trips the switch. Have taken it out and tested the element, I was getting an intermittent reading on a volt meter and one of the wires looked a bit ropey, so had them soldered. It is still tripping.
Anything else I should be looking for?
Any suggestions gratefully received.

What resistance are you measuring across the element?

I was getting 460 intermitting, but nothing now.

If you are getting OL,(over limit) on your multimeter, that would indicate that your element is faulty. Are you confident in the solder job done, it can take a lot of heat to solder onto an element, they are usually spot welded

yeah given up on element . trying to source new one . anybody got any ideas where.?
