So I see Aldi will be stocking the toilet chemicals as per usual. What do people think of the pink chemical? All brands in general that is? I think I saw mention somewhere of the build up of black sludge because of the pink stuf. I think I have noticed that myself, on the reservoir level indicator glass.

The green is only effective for 24 hours and then it breakdown. It's designed to do this and be disposed into a general sceptic tank.
The blue chemical needs to be diluted by several thousand times to become safe to disposed, hence why you need to use a public sewerage system.
I thought that the pink chemical is for the flush tank that some toilets are fitted with.
This year we are trying to use only a dishwasher tablet instead of chemicals.
A few more trips needed before I can deem it a success.

I have always accepted that the pink was used in the flush water storage tanks you get in Caravans to help clean and freshen up the bowl when flushed.
Blue was the preferred chemical for waste stored in a cassette or tank.
Green for the same purposes but Eco so not as good for longer use but septic tank friendly
Some people use diluted pink in a spray bottle too give the bowl a quick squirt before and after use.

Guys. Have you thought about a Sog it’s very effective and easily fitted. It keeps the smells out of the bathroom. If you are keeping the van a long time it makes sense. The secret is to open the flap with the toilet seat down, let it start to extract before you lift the lid

I’m trying out tablets as well Malcom. I’m at the same stage, trying to figure out if they are effective. I wonder if the green stuff is the same as generic bio liquid for washing?
As for the Sog, wouldn’t you need to drill a vent/ exhaust?
You can exhaust it out through the door for the cassette or down through the floor. All depends on the type you buy
A great system. Well worth the money

Tried all the different tabs and bio liquids. Also tried the blue without the formaldehyde. None of them worked for me in eliminating the odour. So back to the Elsan Blue.

I found the tablets clogged up the flush trap and rubber seal after a while so stopped using them I'm quite happy with the Aldi blue stuff, I also have a bottle of the green

The pink stuff caused black gunge in my caravan flush tank when I had one. So bad it blocked the bowl jet and some times you would flush it and the black stuff would come out into the bowl along with the flush water. No flush tank in my motor home. I avoid the blue stuff as I empty the contents into my own septic tank. I used to use the tablets but now just use the spray bottle trick with zoflora in it.

Rambler as stated there is only a hole in the cassette door which is then covered by a vent with a filter in it. Even I was able to fit it. For me it was a case of measure measure measure. Have a rest and measure again. It does take a bit of courage to take a hole cutter to your van. The instructions were very clear

Gavster, I have a septic tank also - haven't had to empty the casette yet as we just got it. Would you advise the green stuff so? I know it doesn't last as long as the blue, but would it be safer for the tank? Do you leave anything in the empty cassette while not in use? Thanks

We have green and blue, I never thought about it . So the blue in cassette got changed that morning that Ally mentioned only green for Beckenhill. Just bought 2 more bottles green yesterday, originally we used the Bloo toilet tablets dissolved in a 2litre plastic milk container but useless.

It always surprised me that Aldi never came to NI definitely in England so presume Scotland and Wales.
Generally set up very close to a Lidl, love both stores.

We use the Green Aldi stuff all the time so far with no problems, though there are four of us in the van so it gets emptied regularly enough can get a little smelly if left for a while.

Slightly off this post, admin move to recent post about checking levels in gas cylinder...but as topic is on stocking up supplies in MHs....before anyone says it no Aldi and Lidl don’t do gas cylinders ...
Nigel was looking at things in Mh, and took out nearest gas cylinder in use to see if nearly finished, thinking the one behind was the spare full one,....no empty.
I wouldn’t like to be heading for France as impossible?/difficult? to get replacement for our ROI propane cylinder.
I think I am right in saying NI gas cylinders are different.
A new 11kg propane cost €35 was €30 last time...awhile since we bought one

I have never actually used the green stuff myself. I do find the dishwasher tablets etc are not great especially in warm weather. The best solution I have found is the spray bottle with zoflora as it keeps the smell away and stops the cassette getting filled with water. I have young kids who think it is great fun to keep pushing the electric flush and then the cassette is a ton weight when I go to lift it so I have to leave the pump switched off sometimes! I empty my cassette in my septic tank regularly so avoid the blue stuff for that reason but otherwise it would be the best chemical option all round. A SOG does sound like a good idea though... I have a second cassette I keep in a compartment under the garage if I am stuck but have not had to use it yet.
