My hookup lead was looking at bit ropey with the cable sleeve at the socket split so I thought I would seal it with some self amalgamating tape. The lead is probably 8 or 10 years old.

Before taping it up I decided to check the connection in both the plug and socket. Of the six screws, 3 at each end, one was missing completely and two were loose. Even so the lead was still working.

It might be worth a check on your lead.

Something that might be of use to some of you (or not)...

I got one of these plugs for my dad years ago. It's a standard 16a plug with a clear polycarbonate body which lets you see the wires and connections inside without taking it apart. Some factories use them to speed up regular electrical inspections.

I got it so that I could fit a neon indicator lamp inside. The purpose of which was for my dad, when he was hooking up to a mains power post at a campsite, he could quickly see that he had power without going back to the camper.

Kinda handy and kinda gimmicky, but he liked it.

This might 'spark' an idea amongst some of you... (pardon the pun)

That looks a great job Kevin. Didn't know you could get them like that. On the to do list definitely.
