Great job.
Would be very interested in what the VRT mandarins come up with as a figure as this is the way I'm considering going.

Your Sprinter is the same size as my 02 VW LT35. I was wondering about the bed. Is it transverse? In mine, a bed that way is too short so it has to go length ways. I have a U shaped lounge at the back that converts to a bed, six foot six long. We keep it made up on tour, as we still have a two seat dinette at the front.
You've done a nice job - well done and enjoy.

CVRT is out since 2013, still taxed a commercial, if it's been lying up that long there must be a reason.

Thanks Davidrory!
The bed is not transverse, is on long. Dimension is 190x140cm. On the bed's side is the wardrobe long as the bed is and 35cm depth.

Got in post today notification from Rosslare Commissioners. Informed me they were unable to calculate the VRT as I didn't add the total amount spent on conversion on the formular. They returned all bills and receipts to calculate and add the value. Will send back tomorrow.
2 weeks spent for nothing :(

I think you did too a nice job on it, you would be better off taking it in missing hubcaps, awning etc.and looking a bit scruffy, then tidy it up after you get your vrt quotation if you are happy with it. unfortunately the nicer you do the conversion the more they will value it and the more VRT you will pay.

Probably too late now but you would have been better not to have fitted or sent them the invoice for the Awning before the VRT was estimated, as it is also an added value ( did you send in photos with the paperwork )

That go's for all Motorhomes in the South John, they are basing the value of imported Motorhomes on the current value of Irish Motorhomes that the VRT has been already paid on and they are looking for 13.5% Vrt down on already paid VRT. THAT CAN'T BE LEGAL, Can it?

If they keep that up, some converters might end up presenting their van with the minimum specification required, and then go on to upgrade the equipment and trim once the vrt is paid. 🙄

I have been advised that that was a method used by some converters where they put in a set of old caravan fittings ( from the back stores ) took the photos, done the paperwork and then when the VRT was paid did the real conversion, but when the same fit out turned up in several vans it was copped on to, the result is that now condition is mostly disregarded and a set figure for a good interior layout is applied to all van.

Like it or not these guys are tasked with getting tax for this country on behalf of the Government and in that do a good job, treat them with respect, they are not idiots and don't like to be treated as such.

For me is hard to believe this works as you must present the conversion to a agreed SQI who will inspect. Mine was inspected for everything if works, how was fixed, etc...

Not sure the VRT calculation is done based on the receipts I present, they only told me to add the total value on the form computing all receipts values.

Would a van that is being assessed for VRT be valued more if it had brand new cassette awnings attached, than if it had not?

This is indeed an interesting topic.

Anyone knows how the VRT is calculated? Is taken in consideration how much money you spent on conversion? Or just what van make is, mileage?

Can can they assess the quality of the work done, if the materials used are the best/worst quality just based on 10 pictures taken and sent?

The guy who inspects the van has no interest other then everything is fixed and fitted.
why would they bother adding all your receipts? because that's your job to fill out the form, they can't add anything to your declaration.

The answer is yes, of course, a van with tatty gear and no awning is of less value than one with new gear and an awning

The VRT is calculated on a comparison van on sale here in Ireland from eBay / Adverts / Gumtree and Dealers

Yes, sent 10 pictures.

so from the pics, and receipts they can evaluate what the equipment is worth, adding the report and the market value of the van and then comparing it to the value of what's on the market

I would be surprised if in the end if you would put a lower value on your van then they do.
Not you, me or anyone else thinks its fare, but its the system

So just to be clear, without the awning the van receives a lower valuation. Therefore the VRT bill is lower?

Yes of course, would you expect to pay the same price for a van/motorhome without an awning, as one with?

Be prepared at the moment on Gumtree.

I don't know what you think, but for me, unfortunately ( in regard to VRT. ) Alin,s Van is nicer than all of them.

So it makes sense to hold back on the trim until after the VRT is settled.

A questions for those who know the answer:

My Sprinter was due for CVRT at end of February. Due to ongoing conversion I waited to have the conversion done, all paperworks in order and then to schedule the CVRT. Due to actual situation with the delayed VRT calculation I was thinking to go for CVRT now. Wrote to a approved CVRT test centre, they were unable to tell me if as it is now can be tested as Van, they want a visual inspection first.

Do anyone had a previous experience on this topic?

What else do they test it as ? I asked the same question of a chap I know who works in a CVRT test center as I had my van pulled apart and his words were we don't care what's inside so long as its mechanically sound.
That was from a guy in Wexford.

You would think they would test it as a Mercedes Sprinter. Does it matter to them if the log book say “Motor Caravan” or not?
