Pull out couch matress

So it has become apparent that our pull out couch cushions are not the most comfortable mattress. The couch has a cushioned backrest, and a cushioned seat section, both of which become the matress when the couch is pulled out. These function well as a couch, but lack that extra bit of comfort needed as a matress. At just over 4 inches thick, the foam does compress enough so that you can feel the wooden latts beneath at certain compression points.

I was thinking either an extra piece of matress layer or replacing the existing cushion foam with something of similar thickness to fit the cushion covers but better suited as a matress. Can anyone recommend what to use? Memory foam? Can it be got cut to size and where to order (Galway region but online is good too)? Any advice appreciated.

Jason don't laugh but try an air mattress on top of the existing cushions.

My thoughts exactly. Blow it up, use it, fold it up. Sorted. Very comfortable and good when you move too 😙

Ours is almost exactly as you have described yours, and we had the same issues as you are having.
We got 50mm memory foam, and a cover made by coolmax for it.......... the coolmax cover is excellent and adds to the comfort, there is cheaper ones but the coolmax is very good.
Completely transformed the comfort of the bed.... in fact it’s perfect.
We roll it up, secured with a bungee strap and stored in the overhead bed during the day.

Both the coolmax cover and the memory foam sourced on eBay.co.uk.

Different suppliers for the memory foam.

I had actually thought about that Malcom. I do have an air matress for the tent. It must be about 8 inches thick. I might be up very high but worth a try. Cheers!

I have a similar couch. Which is very comfy in couch mode for sitting and sleeping for one person but laid out is a very miserable torture device. The seat side is higher than the back side with a ditch in the middle. So I use the 3 inch memory foam from WalMart as a topper. Though I cringed when they cut it to fit.

I got the 5cm memory foam topper. It is not helping much though. It would work well on a harder mattress I’m sure. The foam in my cushions compresses too much. I think I should try replace it with a more solid foam.

I might have a look at those suppliers Martin.
