Seems fair enough. You want to be welcome and contribute to a towns economy but can see that councils need to try to keep everyone happy. Self regulation doesn’t always work, especially in very popular areas. I’m thinking of Donaghadee and Howth.

With motorhomes becoming ever more popular this is likely to become more common but hopefully it will result in more Aires and dedicated parking areas as a result. Demand for spaces to visit towns is outstripping supply at the moment. Better that councils try to find a balance rather than just putting up barriers and signs and leaving it at that.

Fully agree with everything that Gavin says.
I think that because the summer of 2018 was exceptional warm and dry resulting in times of overcrowding by campervans and general public in popular places.
A summer like 2015 would definitely reduce overcrowding.

Absolutely agree. Unfortunately self regulation generally doesn't work.

Cobh, Cobh, Cobh.
We have been extremely lucky to have had the ear of two open-minded and progressive people in Cobh, namely the Town Clerk (now known as The Municipal District Officer) and the County Council local Executive Engineer together with some helpful Councillors.
Cobh now stands an excellent example of the best of European Aires. The motorhome parking area is well laid out with fine views over the harbour complete with a services bay which provides for the free replenishment of water tanks and disposal of grey and black water. The parking is provided for a typical €10 per 24 hours and bye-laws, modelled on the European norm, are in place to control the facility and prohibit inappropriate behaviour such as staying too long, putting out equipment and engaging in activity more proper to a campsite.
Members of West Mayo Municipal District and their Director of Services could do well by making a 'fact-finding' visit to Cobh, I'd be delighted to put the kettle on for them.

I think they should also look closer to home. Mayo council already provide excellent facilities for Motorhomes at Crossmolina. This is a popular spot. I’m sure they could do something similar at Westport only a few more bays.

Couldn't agree more with Eirebus.
Large Car park beside the Harbour which is usually empty but has Height Barriers.

Tell him to download the app and he’ll have no problems finding a parking spot wherever he goes. It’s only 4.50.

I noticed those a few weeks ago, they are new and on both sides of the triangle where many usually park. I normally park further down outside the little museum. Have never had a problem there and it’s not too far to walk to the Harbour pubs etc
