Best insurance deal?

 ·
Posted: 15.03.2019  ·  #1
Hi, I'm about to renew my 2004 LHD motorhome insurance, and have noticed my broker's fee has increased.
I tried going direct to Aviva, ( the company the broker uses) but was told that they don't cover motorhomes directly, I'd have to go back through my broker (Weird, I know)
So maybe I should be shopping around.
Can anyone suggest a good company in Ireland to start my search?
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like you're with Stewarts so try Dolmen insurance ( axa)

Have you tried negotiating. I got the renewals for my 2 cars and house insurance. They are all on one policy and are a good price as they are. I had a chat with the insurance company and got £90 off the renewal price.

Both camper insurance ,here only deal with brokers.
Stewart's Aviva.
Dolmen Axa.
As I believe Dolman were involved with getting the Camper Deal off the ground in the first place, you can be sure they have a long deal / arrangement.
I have tried to get all our policies together direct., Buildings ,Contents , cars, life etc, fell on deaf ears from both Axa and Aviva.
Look at insurance trough one of the caravan and camping clubs where you can get discounts and better breakdown cover.

I've been with Dolmen for over 15 years but am thinking of changing to one that repatriates after my breakdown in Germany last year. I have been looking at Caravan Guard

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. I'm waiting on a quote from Dolmen, but if they're simply brokers, I don't expect any major surprise.
I'm currently paying 300 fully comp, 2004 LHD, 2.4 tdi Transit based Rimor, just me driving, full bonus and no points or problems. The broker adds 39 euro for arranging it (posting me the renewal form) ........
PS I'm one of the lucky ones who joined ADAC for the European breakdown/repatriation before the new restrictions!

Just renewed my Ins with Dolmen.

£500 excess discount and discount for the ICCC membership brought it down to £232.00.

I think that's not a bad price.

That's excellent if my sums are correct that's about €270. I don't know if you could get down here.

I got a quote from stuart insurance today 435 comprehensive. I wanted open driving. They would provide it for 80 euro extra and the drivers had to be members of my family. Any thoughts on this?

I think Dolmans. this is an extract from my quote for 2017 there was no talk of any extras.there wasn't any real difference for this year.
Many thanks for insuring your campervan with us last year. Your cover expires on 23/06/2017. We would welcome the opportunity to look after your policy again this year.
The amount due this year is €428.00 including our admin fee of €49.24 and 5% government levy. This premium includes free Breakdown Assist and Home Start Service as standard. We recommend this policy due to its cover and price.
Your premium must be paid on or before 23/06/2017 to ensure continuous cover. If you have informed us that you have a private car policy, you must maintain this policy or advise us.
Cover Summary as follows
Insurer: AXA Insurance Ltd Value: Current Market Value
Cover: Comprehensive Vehicle My Van.

I paid 391 euro this year for mine with Dolmen. I could have gotten it for 340 but I opted for open insurance for anyone over 25 with full licence.

Also check whats on offer with some of the caravan and camping clubs where you as a member will get discounts and some can get better breakdown cover

When thinking about this I wonder how many members would it take for ADAC to offer breakdown cover for Irish members ?.

Is it worth MHCC asking ADAC if they would do a group deal

Don't think we would have enough members yet, now if all the motorhome clubs asked as a joint venture now that would be sucking diesel,

I read someplace in the past that ADAC subcontract the the recovery to the likes of the AA and probably the RAC in Ireland and Uk and that is where the problem is, they are finding it hard to deal with them

My renewal for this year with Adrian Flux went up by £25. I didn't have time to shop around so phoned them and they matched to last year's price. Happy with that.
