MOTORHOME CRAIC SUCCESS

Work has begun on the installation of a new Aire in Belturbet, Co. Cavan. There will be provision for, initially, 2 or 3 dedicated parking bays, fresh water, electric, toilet emptying and grey waste drainage. Work commenced with some trees being cut back and now ducting is being installed for water and electrical supply. This new Aire has largely came about because of a Craic meet that was organised a few years ago in the town. The locals were very impressed with the MHC members who participated and brought new revenue to the town. The outcome was that the town committee, since then, have been lobbying the Council for the provision of an Aire facility and now after all the effort they have succeeded. This is a really great achievement for MHC to have inspired this and i feel if this is supported the Council will roll out further Aires within the Cavan area. I will update as works progress. So many thanks to the Craicers who participated in that original meet. Not sure if i posted in right section will leave it to the staff if it needs moved.

Great to see a positive story about motorhomers after reading a lot of negative reports from harbours, docks, towns etc who are making it difficult for us. Well done all concerned.

That's absolutely fantastic well done to all involved and very well done to Cavan Co Co for once again having the foresite to see motorhoming as a genuine tourist revenue.

This is fantastic. I can't claim any credit, not having been at the original Craic meet but I feel regular Motorhomers are very responsible and they like their beer, (in a responsible manner), and their grub, so spend money in the area they fetch up in.

Now I don't mean to slag off occasional campers.

Will be delighted to support this facility.

It has been a slow process but progress has been made. The drive over drain and service point have been installed. Bays still have to be marked out and signed also new lighting will be put in. Will post when completed. Hope it will be used well as it could mean the rolling out of this project in other Locations in Cavan.

Is this Aire where you park to visit Turbet Island? I don't see the exact location on the app yet.

It's a pity the old Emerald Star cruiser rental area couldn't be used as a Aire! I reckon fresh water, waste water and electricity would merely need to be "reconfigured"...

That's it...Turbet island car park. We had suggested several other sites to the council but this was the one they opted for. As you said other options would have meant less work but the the council have provided this facility so let's make good use of it.

Things are progressing slowly. They have marked out bays. Unfortunately council are still waiting on ESB hooking up electrical supply.

Great services area, 'though the grey water discharge point could be better anyone with a bad aim will cause unsightly run-off.
BTW is there someone or a company with the agency for those service bollards, there should be sales opportunities to councils with the budget to buy them instead of doing a self-build.
The could be sold using the environmentally friendly sales pitch, that the council would be providing an alternative to inappropriate and environment unfriendly discharge of grey and black waters.

Make sure you list it on park4nights, etc to give it a bit of exposure and international publicity. The more continentals that visit, the more the council will see value in it.

Do you know if the Electric has been hooked up yet and even where to buy the tokens ? We are planning on visiting it tomorrow, but reading around it doesn't seem to be live yet

I suspect there isn't,as it doesn't get used enough, write a review on the motorhome parking app and let everyone know how you got on

Great news. Looking forward to using the new facilities and of course supporting the local economy by leaving a 'few bob' behind.

Well done to all.
