Don't know if this is the place for this, but if it isn't just either bin it or move it.

I got this message this morning from Lee in Leisure care, the newer member of motorhome repairs workshops.

"If you can spread the word for me we are doing Habitation services and caravan services for £125+VAT, they need to be booked in by end of January, work can be carried out anytime."

He did a good job on mine, and at this money, it makes a lot of sense.

Nick, for the £125, if there is a problem is it fixed within that price?
Our Mh is 10 years old and we have never had a habitation test, though we bought it in Thompson’s 3 years ago.

Vat always makes a difference. I love the way firms quote prices. Why not quote the price including vat so that we know what we have to,pay?

Totally agree with you Jack, I , like many others, frequently get caught out with VAT being added on after I thought I had agreed a price. 😬

I would question if it is even legal to advertise a price to the general public without including VAT.
VAT. Excluded prices is accepted practise for trade only.
Anything else is shoddy practice.

Hi Rosemary, I would have no idea about that really, but with a normal full price service, it's normally extra if there are parts involved. Send them a message, it'll cost you nothing and they'll be able to give you proper info. https://www.facebook.com/searc…SEARCH_BOX

Happy hunting..

In B2B (Business to Business) transactions the price of the service or good should be shown as a figure net of VAT, with a note specifying the percentage VAT applicable.

In B2C (Business to Consumer) transactions the price of the service or good should be shown a single figure inclusive of VAT
It is not for a retail consumer to compute the final price, irrespective of how simple that may be.

Just in case anyone avails of the offer, it’s £125 plus vat = £150

Don't know about the North John, but in the south vat on service including parts is 13.5% where as if you buy the parts over the counter it is 23%, some times it is cheaper to get the work done than doing it yourself, .an example of that was when a dealer near me fitted 4 internal led's to our Motorhome recently at a cost of €66+ 13.5% = (ONLY) €74.91 BUT if I bought them of him over the counter it would be €66+23%= €81.18 (Maybe he charged me the difference or more to fit them, I don't know as the Labour was priced for all of the work done.

Was it back in the 80s before IKEA, you could have the same kitchen units fitted for you cheaper than buying yourself and DIY....as vat was at different rates.

I know too well the price of them, Colin. They were for sale in Roses, Spain in that Chinese shop there for between 3 and 4 euro, I was so annoyed I took off the clear cover covering them on our van to see what type they were and found one had already come apart and was hanging by two small wires from the base.

There is also a very good stand in the indoor market that sells loose fortified wine from the barrel.

Wouldn't really buy that kind of stuff in a Chinese shop,
A supplier like https://www.ultraleds.co.uk/led-bulbs/g4-led-bulbs.html?p=1 which is UK based, who have a bricks and mortar premises, a landline phone number and gives a warranty would be a more reliable place to buy from.

BTW, changing/replacing an LED unit is just as easy as replacing a regular bulb, definitely less than five minutes more like two.

I'm being fully honest here..... I have actually no idea who anyone is between the Mr Burns and the Mr James.... all I see these days is adverts for double glazing, they also seem to be have a bit of a disagreement on FB.

Leisure Care NI LTD on FB doesn't seem to exist any more?

I know @'Chevy g20' keeps more abreast of these things, or maybe his brain has a better capacity for memory :)

Is this different from Downshire Camping and Caravans who were up to a couple of years ago on Newry Road Banbridge but are now on Hall Road Waringstown.

Guess that over here we are lucky that we have MCEA who seem to "control" the standard of workmanship but looking on the website there only appears to be one approved engineer in the north and south
https://www.mobilecaravanengin…engineers/
It is great having them come to your home (or wherever) usually at a cost less than a dealer

The guy who plumbed? In my Propex heater was MCEA, I asked him did he not have to be Gas Safe, he Replied "no"

Hmm, so you can give me a certificate? "Yes, all it needs to be is a competent person to get MCEA" I smelt BS and I got BS. The certificate never materialised and straight after I refused him to work on any van that is stored with us.

Just had a look at the MCEA website. They offer a 5 day course to be an engineer. Now correct me if I’m wrong but I would suspect that you need a bit more time to learn everything about repairing caravans/motorhomes. The course might give you a few pointers but how could you be qualified. I have a few houses that I rent out and went on different courses so I could maintain them, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, boiler maintenance, plastering, brick laying. Each course was a couple of days and I learned a lot but not enough to build a house. When the dopplegrugerhand cranked release valve goes I call in the big boys who know what they are doing. One of the guys on the boiler maintenance course was in the process of setting up his own business to service boilers but I certainly wouldn’t employ him.

That's not a course, it's a look at a course?
